The Secret Is In The Softening
The butter you use should be unsalted, so you can control the amount of salt you are adding to your spread. You will also want to make sure your butter is nice and soft.
If you take it out of the fridge before you get started, and set it near your oven, that should be plenty of time for it to soften. If you forget to take it outdont worry! Just microwave it in 15-second intervals until you get the right consistency. Remember, we are striving for softened, not melted.
Green tip: Look for organic and palm oil-free butter if you can. Buying organic means you are supporting farms that do not use damaging pesticides and fertilizers, and palm oil production is a huge driver behind deforestation.
Once your garlic is roasted, it will easily integrate into your softened butter and seasoning. I find the best tool to use is a hand mixer because it whips the butter into a light and airy spread while blending the garlic in evenly.
You can also use a food processor, blender, whisk, or mortar and pestle . It doesnt hurt to be a little heavy-handed with this spread.
Heres What You Will Need:
- Texas toast like most things in Texas, slices of this delicious soft bread are big, at least two times as thick as regular bread slices.

A few things to remember when making Air Fryer Texas Toast:
* Do NOT thaw the frozen toast before cooking.
* There’s no need to use oil.
* If you have the convection-style air fryer, you need to remember to rotate the trays when the toast is halfway through cooking.
* Cooking times will be longer, the more pieces you pack into the tray or basket.
Best Bread For Texas Toast
The best bread for Texas Toast is white bread, fresh from the bakery. You want a loaf of bread that is nice and soft, and you want it to be somewhat smaller in width . A smaller French loaf or a loaf of home-style white bread is ideal.
Baguettes can tend to be a bit hard on the outside and chewy on the inside. This isn’t ideal for Texas Toast, but it could work in a pinch.
CAN I USE PRE-SLICED BREAD?
If you can’t find the suggested bread for Texas Toast, you can use sliced bread — no problem! You’ll just need to watch it closely in the oven, as it will likely require less cooking time. The thinner the bread, the quicker it will crisp up.

How To Freeze Homemade Texas Toast
To freeze it, allow your bread to cool to room temperature, then place it in a freezer-safe, zip-top bag. Remove as much air as possible and seal.
You can also freeze it in loaf-form by simply lining up the toasts, centered over a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil and wrapping it tightly. Add another layer of aluminum foil for good measure and freeze. Use within three months for best results!
How To Make It
Preheat the oven and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
Mix together softened butter, minced garlic, and fresh chopped parsley. Stir in a pinch of salt and then spread on each slice of bread from end to end.
Mix the cheeses together and sprinkle evenly on top of each slice of buttered bread. Arrange on the baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Brown under the broiler for a minute if desired.

Get Your Garlic Roasting First
The most important ingredient in this recipe is, of course, the GARLIC! Roasting garlic makes the inside ooey-gooey and ideal for spreads.
The trick to perfect roasted garlic in a small amount of time is to NOT peel it. Keeping it inside its papery outer layer will allow the garlic to cook thoroughly without getting crispy.
Since we want to cook it quickly, we have to crank the heat up. Make sure to cover it completely with tin foil. Youll end up with a golfball-sized sphere of tinfoil. After 30 minutes in the oven, you should achieve the perfect consistency.
Allow some time for it to cool so you dont burn your hands, and cut the tip and squeeze to reveal your beautifully roasted garlic! It should squeeze right out into the bowl. This is the same technique I use in my Roasted Garlic and Feta Mashed Potatoes.
Green tip: Try grabbing organic garlic if you can. Organic farms rely on biodiversity to generate rich soil, avoiding the use of pesticides and fertilizers, which means no toxic runoff.

Why Is It Called Texas Toast
Texas Toast likely originated at a BBQ restaurant called the Pig Stand in Denton, Texas, where Texas caught on and couldn’t get enough.
