Cake Pops Are Smaller Than A Cake So They Must Be Less Expensive

Bride & Groom cakepops

While basic cake pops are sometimes more cost-effective than a cake, this is typically not the case when they’re made to match a certain decor. While a cake baker has just one cake to decorate, a cake pop baker has multiple, sometimes hundreds, of cake pops to decorate, each one with it’s own specific design.

The average cake pop starts at $2 each and can typically be matched to your color scheme. On the other end, extremely detailed cake pops can go up to $5 or even $6 per pop, depending on the level of detail and products used. Cake pops with edible gold leaf, for example, have a simple, classy look, but they cost more because of the gold leaf. You can always mix and match the more expensive designs with some basic ones, helping you achieve the look you want while staying within your desired budget.

While big box stores and mega coffee shop chains may offer less expensive cake pops, they are also mass produced and often filled with preservatives so that they can sit on a shelf until sold. Our cake pops are made by hand and always made to order. Custom is always going to cost more, but the end result will always be better. As the saying goes, good cake ain’t cheap and cheap cake ain’t good.

Current Waitlist: 2 Days If Weather Is Above 75 In Your Area We Recommend 2 Day Air Or Quicker Chocolate Will Melt Above 75

Thank you for popping by! We are on a current 2 day waiting list. This means you must count 2 days from the date you have placed an order before an item can be shipped out or picked up then add your shipping day transit choice. RUSH orders are sometimes available – please call us ahead to see if we can accommodate. We do not ship items over a weekend so if you order on a Wednesday night or Thursday the item will ship out on the following Monday to prevent melting. If you place an order during the summer you must select two day air or less – ground shipping will melt in the warmer temperatures causing you cake pops to deform and crush. We will not refund melted orders with ground or 3 day shipping. Shipping costs have gone up because of high gas prices – we do not profit form shipping. Orders may be placed for future dates to ensure you have been placed in our schedule. Thank you for all the cake pop love!

My Friend Is A Baker So I’ll Just Hire Him/her

Unless your friend has their own business and has experience with large-scale baking, I would absolutely leave this aspect to a professional. With all of the time you’ve spent planning every detail, having a trusted and vetted vendor is truly priceless. Your family member or friend may have the best of intentions, but do they have the skills necessary to execute your vision to your expectations? It comes down to knowing your strengths and the strengths of others. I make a mean cake pop, but I have no problem hiring someone else when I need a cake. Your wedding desserts, whether they be cake pops, cupcakes, a cake or a full dessert bar, should not be known and remembered for your friend’s good intentions.

Brandi Matiyak has made cake pops and chocolate dipped desserts since 2012. Before diving into the world of baking, she anchored the morning newscast for an Iowa TV station. She perfected the ins and outs of storytelling and is now applying that same passion into this new creative outlet. Despite her stay in the Midwest, Brandi was born and raised right here in the Bay area and is extremely happy to be home!

Serving Cake Pops Instead Of Wedding Cake

Baking a cake large enough to feed the crowd at your wedding is quite the undertaking. Not only do you have to transport the heavy cake to the location, but then you have to spend what feels like forever cutting and serving individual pieces to wedding guests. Even worse, guests have to stand in line waiting for a piece rather than dancing or interacting with the bride and groom.

Cake pops make it much easier to serve cake to a larger crowd. Each cake pop comes on a handy popsicle stick, therefore eliminating the need for silverware . Additionally, cake pops are less messy than cake. Guests can eat it without worrying about getting frosting on their dress or suit. .

If you still want the moment where the bride and groom cut the cake together, bake a small two-person cake and serve the guests cake pops.

So, how many cake pops will you need to serve at your wedding? According to Katie Pritchett, the owner of Katies Catering, you should plan on at least one cake pop per guest. Of course, you likely wont know the headcount until a week or two before the event. Katie says that serving cake pops at a wedding is a wonderful idea. Theyre easy to eat and can help add color to the dessert table.

Well, first of all, determine how many people will be at your wedding. Next, determine how you want to serve the cake pops, trust me it matters.

Cake Pops Are Less Fragile Than A Wedding Cake

Bride and Groom Cake Pops

If you’re tying the knot in the midst of a Florida summer, please keep in mind that your cake pops can’t stand the heat. Being outside that time of year will inevitably make a lot of confections melt. Even though the heat creates a hurdle, you can still overcome it if you take the proper precautions.

Many venues will have an indoor area this is the ideal place to keep your sweets, especially if you’re creating a full dessert table. If your dream is to have your guests dining on their desserts outside, then make arrangements to have everything remain inside, or kept cool, until just before serving. No one wants to eat a melted, messy cake pop!

Shaping Your Cake Pops

To make the characteristic round shape of these tasty desserts, you can try molding them by hand, shaping them in a silicone mold, or even using a mini meat baller. Since these cake treats have recently become popular, some companies even sell actual cake pop makers that shape and bake the tiny round cakes. However, make sure you look up reviews before you buy any such machine, as many may not stand up to the large batches you need to make for your guests. If rolling by hand, remember to cup your hands to keep the mixture rounded and prevent it from crumbling. About a tablespoon of cake mixture will make a standard-sized cake pop.

To bring in the lollipop element of your cake pops, you can use candy sucker sticks that are easily found online or in craft stores within the baking section. You can use plain white sticks, but decorated and colored options are also sold. Look for ones that match your wedding colors!

Since cake pops need to stay upright, its best to buy a specialty cake pop stand to help with cooling and serving. You may also want to consider buying cello bags and twist ties if you plan on handing these out as favors.

Giving Cake Pops As A Wedding Favor To Guests

Cake pops dont have to be the main event at your wedding. In fact, you can serve traditional wedding cake at the reception and send your guests home with cake pops as a party favor of sorts.

This way your guests can feel like theyre taking a portion of the wedding home with them. Even better, its a sweet treat! When you give cake pops out as a wedding favor, you dont need to plan on more than one per person, especially if you package them individually. Therefore, if you have 50 guests coming, youll only need 50 cake pops, individually packaged. However, if you give the party favors out to groups rather than to individuals, youll need to do some math.

How many cake pops should go in the bag depends on the average group size attending your wedding. Assume that the average group size attending your wedding is between four and six guests. Plan on five per bag and then divide the cake pops into bags with either four or six cake pops. If you have extras, put them in their own bag and hand them out to the smallest group.

Check out the table below, which uses the above average, to find out how many cake pops you need to make group wedding favor bags.

All Cake Pops Are The Same

There are two different kinds of cake pops. In one version, a full cake is baked, mixed with frosting, then hand-rolled into a ball. The resulting texture is akin to a truffle. In the other version, the cake pop is baked right from the start using a cake pop machine. The resulting texture is light and fluffy, just like a cake or cupcake.

One way isn’t better than the other it comes down to your personal preference. While I prefer a light and fluffy cake pop, someone else may very well prefer a hand-rolled, thicker cake pop. If you’re unsure what you like, schedule an appointment to taste a few flavors and discuss designs and ideas.

Serving Cake Pops As An Option Alongside Wedding Cake

Homemade Bride and Groom cake pops!

If ditching the traditional wedding cake entirely isnt how you picture your wedding, you can serve cake pops alongside the cake! Serving cake pops alongside a wedding cake youll need less. In the long run, this could save you money while still allowing you the ability to serve cake in a cute, unique way.

When serving cake pops alongside another wedding cake or other type of dessert, you only need to plan on one or two pops per person. This leaves room for some guests to choose cake and cake pops while others might only choose one or the other.

Read the following table to determine how many cake pops you need per person.

Number of Guests
200 to 400

But wait, if youre serving cake pops in addition to cake, how many slices of cake will you need?

According to , you dont need a slice of cake for everyone in attendance at your wedding. In fact, you only need a slice for 77 to 85 percent of the guests. Since youll be serving cake pops, you can reduce this number even further. You can plan on having a slice for 54 to 77 percent of the guests. The exact percentage is up to you, just use this range as a guideline.

Since you cant have half a slice of cake, all calculations in the following table are rounded up.

Number of Guests
200 108 to 154

If youre serving multiple types of cake , you might consider serving more of one flavor over the other. Of course, if you dont know what cake flavor your group prefers more, you can always serve the flavors in equal proportions.

All Cake Pop Bakers Are The Same

Unfortunately, there are always people out there who may misrepresent themselves. The baking community, believe it or not, is pretty small. I have seen it happen numerous times where a relatively new baker will post photos of other people’s work and promote it as their own. The victim winds up being the client, who may not get what they were promised. A great way to avoid this is to check their references and testimonials and see if they’re part of any reputable associations . The last thing you want is for your wedding cake or desserts to be known as a #cakefail.

Once you’re happy with your cake popper’s skill level, as with any vendor, customer service also plays into your overall experience. Does your vendor reply in a timely manner? Do they offer examples or sketches to make sure both your visions are on the same page? Any information you can provide all help to achieve the look you want!
