Getting To Pamplona By Air

There are a few flights per day from Madrid to Pamplona. Fares are usually under 100 and the flight takes 1 hour. The MAD airport is huge so give yourself a generous layover for transferring between the International Terminal and the main Domestic Terminal.

If you are coming in from Germany or from the US on United, you can also fly to Pamplona on Lufthansa via Frankfurt.

Take this routing if you can get a cheap flight to Pamplona or if the layover time in Madrid is convenient.

The Best Time For Walking The French Way

If you want to have the best weather not too rainy and cold and not too hot May, June and September are the best months for walking this route. Temperatures are comfortable around 25°C, there are not many rainfalls. Spring in general and May, in particular, is, in my opinion, the best time for walking the Camino. In addition to the good weather and long days, you get to see fields covered in flowers. September is a good month too but the day is getting shorter and if you like to start walking early in the morning youll have to walk in the dark for an hour or so.

Of course, the good weather attracts a lot of people, May, June and September are the busiest months on the Camino. You might have to book accommodation in some places in advance and deal with many people on the route but on the bright side, its a very social good for those who walk alone.

In , it can get very hot and dry, especially in the part of the Meseta, youll have to start walking really early to be finished before midday. I used to think that August was the peak season for this Camino but its not. In fact, there are not many people walking the route in August everybody knows that its very hot and not many people, especially foreigners, want to walk in the heat.

Walking the Camino in you can be lucky and get nice weather though itll be pretty chilly and dark or very unlucky and get a lot of rain. There will be still some pilgrims but significantly fewer than in summer months.

  • Accommodation: Hotel Camino Real or similar in Calzadilla de la Cueza

Best Ways To Get To Saint

CAMINO FRANCES – CAMINO DE SANTIAGO, St Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Saint-Jean-PIed-de-Port is located in the South West of France, in the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine within the department 64 Pyrénées-Atlantique. Only a few kilometres from the French-Spanish border, the closest and largest towns to Saint-Jean are Pamplona in Spain and Bayonne in France. Whether you land or project on passing through Barcelona, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Madrid, Paris or any other city in Europe, you will more than likely have to transit via one of these two towns. There is, indeed, no airport in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. To get to the village youll have to either take a train, a bus or a car.

The best and most direct way to get to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is, of course, to fly to the closest airportBiarritz Anglet Bayonne Airport, then rent a car and drive one hour towards the Pyrenees. You can also look into BlaBlaCar, a car ride-sharing service very popular in France.

However, because most of the visitors in the area visit Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port for the famous Camino de Santiago de Compostella , I have detailed below the only 2 ways to get there with local transportation.

After your night in Burgos, your Camino will continue along earthen tracks, among the immense crop fields of the region.
