How To Make The Apple Pie

Peel, core and cut the apples, and sprinkle them with a little lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to keep from browning. Toss them with a little flour, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and vanilla, and let the filling sit while you roll out the pie crusts.

Remove the dough disks from the refrigerator and let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rolling one of the disks out to 12-inch circles, about 1/8″-inch thick.

Line the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate and line with the rolled out dough. Trim the edges to a half-inch from the sides of the pie pan. Scoop the apples into the pie plate and create a mound in the center. Don’t worry if the apples are high in the pan, they’ll shrink as they cook.

Otherwise, place the second round of rolled out pie dough over the apples, and tuck the edges of the top pie crust over and under the bottom pie crust edges. Crimp with your fingers to seal.

This pie is ridiculously easy to assemble, and as I mentioned above, Ive managed to streamline the process and make it even easier than before, too!

The original recipe included a few separate bowls and sifting of ingredients. But I do things a little differently and the results are just as good!

While the oven is preheating, I like to place the pie plate on top of a quarter sheet pan. Ill then place my peeled, sliced apples right inside of that. I sprinkle the filling ingredients on top and toss the apples with my fingertips, right inside the pastry shell, until theyre all coated.

The topping involves using a fork or pastry cutter to incorporate cold cubes of butter into a mixture of white and dark brown sugar and some flour. Once it gets crumbly, pour it right on top of the apple mixture and pop it into the oven!

This pie starts at a higher temperature for 10 minutes, and then you lower the temp to 350°F for another 30-35 minutes. Sometimes it takes a little longer to get the top nice and golden brown. Its worth the wait!

I love serving this pie warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Dutch apple pie has been a family tradition for many, many years, and Im glad to keep the tradition alive!

Ive served this pie for Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas just about any holiday is a great excuse for this apple pie. Its also great on any day you want to have a delicious dessert with minimal effort.

Add it after you’ve cut in the shortening-butter and before the cold water. It’s yummy! I like to mix apples in my pies for the tastiest results. About 1/3 – 1/2

Get a 9-inch round pie pan ready. Roll out the dough to a 12-inch circle using a rolling pin on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Repeat for the second disk. Transfer dough to a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with the cooled apple pie filling and dot with the remaining 1 tablespoon butter cut into small cubes.

At any point during the baking the top of the pie begins to brown too much, just tent it with aluminum foil. I usually tent the pie about halfway through the baking with foil.

Let the pie cool for an hour before cutting into it, and serve it plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!

I really like apple pie, so when this project came around, I searched for some apple pie recipes. I found this recipe on Betty crockers website. CHEMISTRY INFORMATION: The pure substances are salt, water, and sugar. The ingredients that are homogeneous mixtures are flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, and shortening. Some heterogeneous mixtures are the filling inside, the apples, and the the pastry when you mix together all the pastry ingredients. When you slice the apples, it is a physical change. Another physical change is when the filling starts to bubble through the crust in the oven. It changes the filling into a gas when it bubbles. Some chemical changes are when the crust bakes and turns from a soft mushy substance, to a hard substance. It also changes color as it bakes. These are signs that chemical changes are taking place.

Heres What You Need To Have On Hand To Make My Favorite Apple Pie Recipe

  • Ready to bake pie dough at room temperature, you want a nice buttery pie crust Whether you choose store bought or a homemade pie crust is up to you.
  • white sugar
  • 9-inch pie plate
  • rolling pin

Preheat to an oven temperature of 425 degrees, lower your oven rack and place a baking sheet on it.

In a small bowl, prepare the flour mixture: flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

To make your apple filling, toss apples in the flour, mix in the lemon juice in a large bowl.

On a clean lightly floured work surface, roll out your piece of dough and divide dough.

Lay your bottom crust in your pie dish. Pour in your apple mixture. Cut your butter into small pieces and scatter around the top of the apples. Add the top crust on top of the filling.

Seal your edges by crimping them together with a fork, dont forget to add a few slits in the center of the pie with a sharp knife to act as steam vents. .

Brush the top of the crust with an egg wash of 1 egg yolk + a tablespoon of milk or ice water. We like to sprinkle the top with a mixture of a tablespoon of each: coarse sugar and brown sugar.

Place pie in the oven for a total bake time of about 40-50 minutes, until your crust is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling.

Let pie cool on a wire rack for a minimum of 2 hours.

Of course, when it is time to enjoy, you will want to enjoy some delicious vanilla ice cream or whipped cream right on the top of your pie.
