Make sure to get the most enjoyable and best experience out of our pies by following the baking instructions and serving tips below. These instructions are specific to Vegan Apple Pie. If you would like instructions for a different pie, please check that page.
If your Vegan Apple Pie is already baked, please store it in the fridge. For best results, the pie should be consumed within 4 days of purchase. Before serving please remove from fridge and leave at room temperature for 45 minutes. To warm, bring to room temperature for 45 minutes, and then place in preheated oven at 350°F. Warm a 9 pie for 20 minutes and a 5 for 10 minutes.
If your Vegan Apple Pie is frozen, please store in the freezer until you are ready to bake and consume. For best results, the pie should be baked within 3 months of purchase. To bake, place pie on baking sheet and place in preheated oven at 350°F. Bake a 9 for 90-120 minutes and a 5 for 50-60 minutes.
Once baked, cool the Vegan Apple Pie for a minimum of 1 hour before serving. The bottom of the pie tin should remain warm to the touch. If it is served too hot, the pie’s consistency will be too runny.
We ordered the Vegan Apple pie, Gluten free Key Lime and Vegan Blueberry for the family for my husband’s bday. Loved all of themselves! We only wish for more Vegan options, as one of our kids has an egg allergy.

A Gluten Free Apple Pie Recipe With A Healthy Twist
A Dutch Apple Pie, an apple crumb pie, or streusel pie, they are all the same recipe.
This gluten free apple pie recipe is based on the principle that it has three parts: the pie crust + filled with sweet cinnamon scented apples + the crumbly topping, which all give the pie layers of flavor and texture.
I didnt want a gluten free apple crumb pie made with store-bought gluten free flour blends because they are all filled with nutrition-less starches and gums. So once more I had to come up with my own blend, and the outcome is delightful! I use whole grain sorghum and oat flour plus cassava flour for its finer texture to help bind everything.
How To Make Apple Pie Bites
The first step is to make your crust. Once you have that in the freezer to set, youll make the apple pie filling and fill the mini crusts with it. Heres more detailed instructions:
Pulse Ingredients: Place the dates, shredded coconut and almonds into a food processor and process until the dates have turned into a sticky paste that holds the other ingredients together. This dough is super similar to my date-based energy balls, but instead of rolling it into balls, were pressing it into a mini muffin tin to make mini crusts.
Form crust: Place a layer of plastic wrap over a mini muffin tin to keep the crust from sticking. Scoop out a heaping tablespoon of the crust mixture into 12 muffin cavities and press the mixture down with your fingers to form a crust.
Freeze: Place the muffin tin in the freezer to allow the crusts to set up while you make the filling.
Make the apple pie filling: Soak the pitted dates in a small bowl with water. Core and chop your apples into tiny chunks. After the dates are softened, drain and add the dates, fresh water, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg into a high powered blender and blend until smooth. Pour the date puree over the chopped apples and stir to combine.
Fill crusts: Fill each crust with a spoonful of apple pie filling. You will probably have some filling leftover just save for another use! I love using the filling as a topping for oatmeal.

Healthier Apple Pie Bars
Similar to my peach pie bars from earlier this year, these apple pie bars are almost foolproof. Make a quick dough using oats, walnuts and enough vegan butter and water to hold it together. Since I want everyone to be able to enjoy these bars, I opted for vegan butter from Earth Balance. It tastes just like regular butter, but completely dairy-free and free from trans fats. Press half of the crust into a square baker, then top with gently cooked, spiced apples and the rest of the crust. Bake until golden brown, then remove and let cool completely.
Honestly, thats the hardest step in this whole recipe- letting the bars cool completely. Its so tempting to cut into them when they are still barely warm, but you risk the filling oozing out. Once they bars have cooled all the way, they are set! Ready to be sliced and eaten.

Raw Apple Pie With Almonds Coconut And Ginger
Traditional baked apple pie can be quite an effort to make, but this Raw Apple Pie is very quick, easy, and absolutely delicious! Also, dont limit yourself to just using apples you can also mix in whatever fruit is seasonal at the moment. This pie will keep a few days in the fridge and its wonderful with fresh fruit or a dollop of coconut yogurt.
Gluten Free Dairy Free Apple Pie Substitutions
- Alternatively to vegan butter you can use coconut oil, but I find its flavor too strong to my liking
- If you can have eggs you can replace the flaxegg with a real egg
- Other apples you can use: Honeycrisp, Empire, McIntosh, Cortland or Granny Smith
- To make this Dutch apple pie Paleo: replace the oat flour and the sorghum flour with almond flour. For the crumble replace rolled oats with almond flour as well.

To be honest, I never shopped at Whole Foods…until Amazon bought them out and they started lowering their prices and offering a 10% prime member discount on yellow tag sale items and special blue tag sales just for Prime members!

Cover The Apple Pie With A Lattice Design
As mentioned before, you can either cover the Apple pie filling with the whole pastry dough or cutting into strips to make a lattice design. After laying the pastry strips on top of the apple pie filling, trim the overhanging dough around the edges and carefully, crimp the top and bottom of the pastry a bit together. I love using any leftover pastry to make decorations for the pie because its so pretty. Just shape the remaining dough into a ball, roll out again and cut out designs of choice using a cookie cutter . Place them on top of the crust and brush the top with a little plant-based milk/ cream or melted coconut oil. Then sprinkle with a bit of brown sugar and bake until golden brown. Thats it!

Vegan Gluten Free Pie Crust
The apple pie crust is made from a careful crafted combination of gluten free flours: oat flour, cassava flour, sorghum flour and flax seed flour .
To give the pie a crust the flakiness it needs, I used baking soda + apple cider vinegar and vegan butter.
I know I said in the past that I dont like the ingredients of vegan butters but this new on the market vegan butter from Miyokos, seems to have pretty decent ingredients .

When you have all the ingredients, youll easily make the dough in the food processor and roll it on a piece of parchment paper.
Then carefully transfer it to the baking dish and pre-bake for 13-15 minutes.

Go easy on the spices. You want a hint of cinnamon and sweetness. not an overwhelming amount.
