Clown puke are the words that Pork Pie itself uses to describe the hardware on this visually ballistic 14 x 7 snare with multiple vents . And by multiple, we dont mean two or three extra holes my count came up with 72 holes drilled in an arrowhead-type pattern through the 8-ply maple shell. You want ventilation for your snare drum? You got it.
Surrounding the edges of these holes is a silver glass glitter finish. Hues like bubble gum pink and bright blue abound on the powder-coated hardware, giving this big snare drum a carnival atmosphere. If you want something with visual impact behind the subtle flair of the Piglite, heres your drum. Even the most demanding extroverts should find this snare meets their criteria for arresting presentations.
Due to the much faster and more complete rush of air outside all those vents, the response of the drum is very dry. While the size can allow the Bullet Hole drum to achieve big volumes, the drum is also noticeably crisp and sensitive at very soft volumes. Many snare drums seem to mush up when played at pp or ppp, but this drum remains precise at the small end of the volume scale surprising for a drum that comes off like such a big brute.

An ambassador x or g+ would probably work well. It would probably be slightly louder and slightly drier than the ambassador that’s on there now. A g14 would be slightly louder and slightly drier than the ambassador x or g+. There’s always moon gel if it’s not dry enough for you. Depending on how good the sound guy is, he may let you play with it as is, or he might insist that you choke the snot out of the drum with excessive tape, moon gel, or o rings.Since these are coming pretty soon, I wouldn’t switch to a 2 ply head, as it may take time to get used to the feel.

Pork Pie drums is a fast growing American drum manufacturer based out of Canoga Park, California. You get a sort of mom and pop shop feel with this company. In 2006, the company had only 9 employees and the founder would sign each drum stamping it with its date of manufacture.
Their piglite acrylic lines are manufactured in California. The Little Squealer kits, Pork Pie’s most successful line, are made in Taiwan.
Pork Pie drums also offer a line of signature snare drums as well as their own hardware.

Obviously, not all snare drums are created equal. The Pork Pie Little Squealer snare drum benefits from a more complex manufacturing process using very high-grade materials. The toms have a real nice tone and resonate very well. There is a lot of clarity. The floor tom gives you some slight boominess but its actually quite controlled. The snare has a bit more “darker” tone that most other snares but its still very crisp in the attack and unique in a good way. It just cuts through in a lower register. The bass drum gives you a real fast solid punch. It’s very quick. I really like the overall sound of the Little Squealer.

Snare Head For Pork Pie Little Squealer
Well, I have a few gigs coming up these next two weeks, and the most important one is mic’d . Anyways, I have this little 13×7 Pork Pie that has become my main snare. I love it. It will probably need a new head before these shows, so I am looking for some recommendations for a good head for it, before I wind up going with an Emperor X as that is my default choice it seems.. Lol I love a high snare drum that really crack, and one that is semi dry. Anyone have a clue what would give me that on this drum? Oh it currently has a coated ambassador on it.
