Preheat Oven And Dutch Oven

Once the dough has poofed up and nearly doubled in size, youre ready to bake that beautiful gluten-free artisan bread.

Add your Dutch oven to your oven and set the oven temperature to 425º F. Allow the Dutch oven to warm up along with the oven. Do NOT add an empty Dutch oven to a hot oven. Allow the Dutch oven to come to temperature slowly with the oven as it preheats.

Please note that many Dutch oven manufacturers advise against heating an empty Dutch oven as it may crack. This is especially true of enameled Dutch ovens, which are at higher risk of cracking. I recognize the risk, and my Dutch oven hasnt cracked when I preheat it slowly with my oven.

Carefully remove the Dutch oven from the oven with oven gloves, remove the lid and set it aside. Youre ready to move on to step #7.

What Is A Quick Bread

Cheddar Thyme Bread Recipe

A quick bread is exactly that: Its quick to make! This means there is no yeast to bloom or dough to proof for hours. Rather than a dough, its made with a batter, and rather than yeast, its leavened with beaten eggs, baking powder, and baking soda to help make it rise. I initially created this bread with only baking soda, but the baking powder addition made the texture even lighter. Apple cider vinegar is also added, which, once mixed with baking soda, causes a chemical reaction, creating tiny bubbles. You may have some tiny holes in the texture of the center of the loaf, which is perfectly normal and adds to the airiness of the loaf.

What Is Artisan Bread

An artisan bread is defined as a warm homemade bread similar to a bread youd buy from bread bakery in France. Think of a bread basket filled with baguettes and boule-shaped breads. These are artisan breads.

Artisan breads typically have a hard outer crust and a soft, doughy center. They must be eaten on the day they are made as they quickly go stale due to the lack of preservatives.

What I love about the artisan bread recipe Im sharing below is that youll be able to measure out the exact ingredients you need to make one boule or loaf of bread. This recipe is perfectly measured out for you.

What Herbs Go Well With This Easy Quick Bread Recipe

This is where you can get real creative and truly make this bread your own. I suggest testing out different herbs or spices that you know you like then maybe experiment with something new along the way. These can be fresh herbs from your garden or the store, dried ones, or a combination of both. Just experiment on your own with this then comment below if you make a great combination!

Some ideas and suggestions to try include:

  • Dill
  • Chives
  • Fennel Seeds

Remember that herbs can be very strong so watch how much you use and how you prepare them. And a general guideline for swapping fresh herbs with dried herbs is to use 1/4 tsp dried for 1 tbsp fresh. Now get creative with this!

Prepare The Yeast Mixture

To prepare the yeast mixture, simply combine the following ingredients in a bowl:

Yeast: Youll need 10 grams yeast, which is equal to about 1 tbsp.

Psyllium husk: Youll need 10 grams psyllium husk, which is equivalent to about 2 tbsp. Psyllium husk is a dietary fiber that is often used to keep the digestive tract healthy and treat digestive issues, mostly notably constipation.

In gluten-free baking, psyllium husk is used as a binder to help baked goods maintain moisture, structure and stretch. Its a healthier alternative to using xanthan gum or guar gum, which are other binders used in gluten-free baking.

You may need to look for psyllium husk in your natural grocery store in the dietary supplement section if you cant find it in the baking section. You can also easily order it . It lasts a long time and youll get plenty of bread-baking action from this small container of it.

Water: Youll need two cups of warm tap water for this recipe. Make sure the water is warm but not hot. The warm water will help to activate the yeast.

Mix everything together and set the yeast mixture aside. The yeast will activate and the psyllium husk will start to gel while you prepare your other ingredients.

Gluten Free Flour Options

When it comes to baking I always suggest a gluten free flour mix to make things easier. Usually the mixes are optimized for leavening and texture with the specific flours they use! My favorite is Bob Reds Mill because its a 1-to-1 blend that makes baking gluten free so easy. Another option you could try is this Kings Arthur Gluten-Free Measure for Measure Flour or this Cup4Cup Gluten Free Flour blend! As with anything though, try it for yourself and see what works best.

The reason that gluten free flour mixes work so well is because theyre specifically formulated for baking. For instance, the Bobs Red Mill gluten free blend includes various flours, starch, and gums that bind and bake like a normal glutenous flour would. Thats why I dont recommend just subbing a gluten free flour blend with something like almond or oat flour because it will effect the final product!

Gluten Free Retail: Bakery

Upon entering the store, an artisan-style bakery is located to the right. Not too unexpected, no fresh gluten free bakery is available . From an execution standpoint, theres likely too much risk of cross-contamination for the retailer and shoppers with celiac or non-celiac gluten sensitivity .

However, a wall of refrigerated cases is situated adjacent to the bakery, featuring three jam-packed doors full of gluten free goodies. The range includes breads, buns, bagels and more from all the gluten free brand stalwarts like Udis, Glutino and Rudis. But the real treat is the selection of goods from small-batch bakers. Products range from full-size cakes by Gem City Fine Foods to 4-pack cupcakes by Sweet Alis to single-serve cakes and brownies by Dolci di Maria and 3 Fellers Bakery. More than enough to satisfy any gluten free sweet tooth!

How To Enjoy This Bread

Paleo Pumpkin Bread with Fresh Rosemary

This bread is meant to be shared. I serve it in its beautiful boule-shaped glory, and then either cut it with a serrated knife or have everyone pull a section off to enjoy it.

Serve it with different dips and infused olive oils. My friend bought me this sampling of beautiful olive oils for my birthday and we have loved sampling them all with my gluten-free artisan bread recipe.

You could also jazz up the flavor of the bread by brushing it with olive oil or melted better and then sprinkling Kosher salt and other seasonings, like thyme, rosemary, or even garlic, on top.

This rustic bread also pairs well with a warm soup or served with mashed avocado for a fancy avo-toast breakfast.

Here is the best gluten free bread recipe you will ever eat! It is super soft, makes great toast and my kids who dont need to eat gluten free like it so much better than regular bread! If you miss foods like sandwiches, French toast and croutons, you must try this recipe!

This gluten free bread recipe is easy to make, has a quick prep time and actually tastes good! I had to start eating a gluten free diet a while back and I was disappointed at how difficult it was to find gluten free bread that was edible. Some gluten free bread was OK but was very expensive, so I decided to try to come up with a recipe of my own.

After a lot of trial and error, I came up with the best gluten free bread recipe ever! This gluten free bread is great for sandwiches, toast and French toast. You can easily cut it up and dry it out to make gluten free croutons. The leftover gluten free bread makes wonderful bread pudding. If you dont have any leftover, you can make the bread and let it dry out just to make the bread pudding!

If you also have to adhere to a dairy free diet, these recipes are dairy free, too!

I am including two versions of my gluten free bread recipe. Both of them are dairy free, too. One of them is designed to be used with some of my favorite store bought gluten-free flour mixes and I indicate which brands of flour worked best when I tested it.

Rosemary And Thyme Loaf

Living gluten free is pretty easy, but when it comes to the bread, thats where I have a real issue. I miss soft, moist bread, that doesnt have a spongy consistency! I miss flavor and memories of warm bread coming out of the oven. I have been playing around with gluten free bread recipes for months now. I even have a kombucha sourdough starter living in my fridge as I write this, and I am more than willing to feed it daily and wait for weeks on end, just to get a taste of a sourdough again! I have found one of the most flavor packed, most satisfying gluten free loafs of all time. Its a BOLD statement, but whether youre living gluten free or not, you will love this bread. In fact, I encourage you to make this, wrap it up, and take it into your office or next gathering just to prove how delicious unprocessed, gluten free bread can be! Makes 1 5 x 9 loaf

Almond Flour Bread Versus Bread With All

There are some great all-purpose gluten-free flours on the market now, such as Thomas Kellers Cup4Cup, so if you are looking for a regular white loaf, you can use an alternative white gluten-free flour like that in a traditional recipe for white bread. However, almond flour is naturally low-carb and yields a moist loaf, which brings a different texture entirely to regular all-purpose flour.

Combine The Dry Ingredients

Gluten Free Focaccia Bread with Potato & Thyme – No Oil Vegan Recipe!

Now combine the following dry ingredients in the large bowl attached to your standing mixer. Always measure dry ingredients by weight, using a kitchen scale vs. measuring cups, so you get the most accurate measurements possible. Heres what you need:

Rice flour: Youll need 200 grams of brown rice flour for this mixture. You can also use white rice flour as the two flours work interchangeably. Brown rice flour includes the bran of the rice seed, which will give your bread more fiber and an earthy taste.

Tapioca flour or starch: Measure out 200 grams of tapioca starch for this gluten-free artisan bread recipe. Tapioca flour and tapioca starch are the same thing and come from the ground root of the cassava plant.

Oat or Buckwheat flour: You can use either 100 grams of gluten-free oat flour or buckwheat flour for this recipe. If you use oat flour, make sure the product is labeled gluten free as not all oats are gluten free. Buckwheat flour does not contain wheat despite the fact that it has wheat in its name. Buckwheat is neither a grain or grass rather, its a plant closely related to rhubarb. Both flours will add earthy tones and fiber to your bread.

Sugar: Youll need just 30 grams sugar, which is about 2 tbsp. The sugar will feed the yeast and aid in helping your bread rise, but you will not taste its sweetness in the final bread.

Salt: Use about 1 tsp of Kosher salt as a flavor enhancer. You wont taste the salt in the final bread either.

What Is Quick Bread

The best part about a quick bread is that theres no yeast involved and its perfect for when youre low on time or just dont feel like spending a lot of effort in the kitchen. The basis of a quick bread is that its leavened with baking powder and baking soda instead of yeast. Thats where the quick comes in because theres no need to let the batter rise. You simply prepare the batter then bake it right away!

Now some say there are two types of quick breads depending on the mixture consistency before baking. If its something like muffins, cornbread, or a quick bread then its actually called a batter. Whereas something like scones or biscuits are made with a dough. And not that it really matters but at least now you have a fun baking fact haha!
