How Do You Make Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

How to Make Fresh! Key Lime Ice Cream Pie

For this recipe youll need milk, granulated sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, key limes, graham crackers, and butter.

Combine the milk and sugar in a bowl then blend until the sugar is dissolved.

Stir in heavy cream, vanilla extract , fresh Key lime juice and zest, mix until blended then pour into your pre-frozen ice cream maker insert. Allow mixture to churn and thicken for 30 minutes.

Next, combine the crushed graham crackers, butter and sugar in a bowl, place on a sheet pan and bake in a 350 degree F oven for 5 minutes until lightly toasted then cool.

When the ice cream has thickened, layer it and the toasted graham crackers in a loaf pan or plastic container. Seal tightly and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.

This Key Lime Pie Ice Cream was heavenly! So rich and creamy and a definite new family favorite.

Whats The Difference Between Regular Persian Limes And Key Limes

First, its easy to see key limes are much smaller than Persian limes. Once sliced youll notice that key limes have a lot of seeds like a lemon, where Persian limes are seedless. These tiny key lime fruits have a much thinner rind, higher acidity, a stronger flavor and a distinct aroma that is easily recognized. Persian limes are actually a cross between a key lime and a lemon, which explains a lot! People often use regular Persian limes in place of key limes, and thats fine too. However, if youre a key lime fan, take the few extra minutes to squeeze fresh key limes for this recipe.

Difference Between Limes And Key Limes:

I feel like we need to take a short detour and chat about the difference between lime varieties. This recipe calls specifically for Key Limes which arent the typical Persian variety you find in the store.

They are quite a bit smaller and less tart which makes them perfect for desserts! While you can use regular lime juice in a pinch I highly recommend you search the store for the smaller variety. Sometimes you can even find just the juice next to the canned fruit aisle of the store.

Can I Make Key Lime Ice Cream Without An Ice Cream Maker

You definitely can, but the recipe is slightly different. The reason this particular ice cream recipe is so good is that it tastes EXACTLY like Key lime pie!

To make this homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker. You will:

  • Eliminate the eggs and increase the cream to 2 cups
  • Whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside in the fridge
  • Combine the sweetened condensed milk with the lime juice. Gently fold and heavy cream into the condensed milk mixture until completely combined
  • Sprinkle in the graham crackers, add the mixture to the pan and freeze until firm.

One of my absolute favorite summer flavors is lime. From recipes like Chewy Lime Sugar Cookies and Cherry Limeade Cupcakes to sweet and tart margaritas, nothing screams summer quite like bright citrus flavors.

Ive actually contemplated purchasing an indoor fruit tree, but considering I completely lack a green thumb, I figure that it would survive about a week tops. Trust me, I cant even keep parsley alive, which is pretty pathetic.

Gardening woes aside, this ice cream is loaded with all of the familiar flavors of your favorite key lime pie recipe, even the crunchy graham cracker crust and its incredibly simple to make.

No bases to heat and chill, you simply whisk the ingredients together and freeze according to your machines directions. After a short time, youll have a dreamy, velvety ice cream bursting with key lime flavor.

What better way to cool off than with this simple key lime pie ice cream?

How To Make Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

Begin by making the crust. In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, brown sugar, and salt. Using a spoon first and then your fingers, mix until evenly combined, making sure to break up any lumps of brown sugar.

Press the crust into an even 1/4-inch layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake until golden around the edges, 7 to 8 minutes.

Let cool, then use a spoon to break into chunks.

Set the crust aside while you make the filling. To start, zest and juice the limes.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese until light and creamy, about 1 minute.

Add the sweetened condensed milk and beat until completely smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.

Add the heavy cream, lime zest, lime juice and salt.

And beat until evenly combined, about 30 seconds.

Arrange half of the crust evenly over the bottom of an 8-by-4-inch loaf pan.

Pour the ice cream mixture over top.

Then cover with the remaining crust crumbles. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze until completely firm, at least 8 hours or overnight.

Hiya everyone! Today Im sharing one seriously delicious recipe with you all No Churn Key Lime Pie Ice Cream! All the flavours of delicious pie, but in ice cream form!

I just love no churn ice cream so much. Its the easiest thing to make, yet never fails to satisfy. Its light, sweet, creamy and to make the base, you only need two ingredients: condensed milk and double cream.

I love experimenting with new additions when it comes to ice cream as well. Recently I made Raspberry Pavlova Ice Cream and I was desperate to make a Key Lime Pie version as I had some limes in the house and my husband and I both love key lime pie anything!

Before we get onto how to make this ice cream, I wanted to let you know that Im going to be taking a few weeks off from posting after this week. Normally I take off the school summer holidays, from around the 20th July to the beginning of September, but nothing is normal about 2020!!

Ive got a lot going on behind the scenes and I also just need some time to recharge my batteries. This year has been hard on us all and I just want to spend some time curled up with a good book.

How Long Is Homemade Ice Cream Good For

Homemade ice cream is good for up to 2 months in the freezer when stored properly.

I like to keep my homemade ice cream in this super cute freezer safe container but before I put the lid on, I press plastic wrap down pretty tightly on the ice cream. That helps to keep the air out so the ice cream stays fresher longer.

Key Lime Ice Cream Pie

Preheat oven to 350 °F

In a medium bowl, combine cracker crumbs and brown sugar. Stir in butter. Press mixture firmly into bottom and up sides of a 10-inch springform pan. Bake for 8 minutes let cool completely. Gently spread softened Key Lime Ice Cream over crust. Cover and freeze for 4 hours, or until firm. Cut into wedges to serve. Garnish with fresh lime slices, if desired.

I have read that adding a bit of vodka to the ice cream before freezing can help with it being too hard or forming extra ice crystals. I have not tested this yet, but do plan to do so in future batches.
