About a year ago, my family took a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My husband had a work trip there and we decided to tag along. We spent the days at the beach and the evenings finding yummy food to eat! I had some of the best Mexican food there and some of the tastiest gelato. We took a day and drove out to the Florida Keys and enjoyed a bit of time on Key West. We only had a few hours there and didn’t get to explore nearly as much as I wished but we enjoyed it. Well when my sister spent some time in the Keys a month or so ago and sent me a picture of a frozen chocolate covered key lime pie pop, I realized that I needed to make it back asap because I did not eat nearly enough key lime goodness while I was there!

As soon as she sent me the picture, I had lots of follow up questions for her. She was nice enough to answer them all. And then I just couldn’t get the idea of a frozen chocolate covered key lime pie pop out of my head no matter how hard I tried! I already have an absolutely to-die-for Key Lime Pie recipe that is also really easy to make. So I was dying to try it, frozen and dipped in chocolate! Thank you to my sister for giving me this inspiration!

Kermits Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe

Kermits is a great spot for coffee or breakfast before heading out on a boat excursion. However, in addition to the cafe they also have a key lime pie shop featuring traditional, mango, strawberry, and my favorite, the chocolate-dipped key lime pie on a stick.

You will see frozen, chocolate covered key lime pie all throughout the Keys, but Kermits is one of the best. Their key lime pie is creamy and the chocolate is not too thick, making it easy to eat before it melts. By the way, the mango key lime pie isnt too shabby either!

Old Town Bakery, Key West

Located in Old Town, a little off-the-beaten path for those wandering Duval Street, you will find the cute, local Old Town Bakery. They offer coffee, pastries, breads, and a unique flavor to their key lime pie. Instead of the traditional graham cracker crust, they use a crushed gingersnap crust. The pie itself is nicely limey and tart, and it is also quite creamy.

If key lime pie isnt your thing, they also have a delicious brownie with a chocolate ganache center. Just be forewarned that it is big enough to share.

Burdines, Marathon

There are two places in Marathon famous for their fried key lime pie Burdines and Island Fish Company. I ate at Island Fish Company on my prior trip to the Florida Keys, so this time I tried Burdines.

Chocolate Dipped Key Lime Pie Pops

Can we just talk about how its August already?! Like, where did summer go? It went by in a blur. Its hard to believe that in just a couple short weeks one of my babies will be starting high school and the other will be starting kindergarten. We may be close to fall and heading back to school, but I am still baking up a storm with all the summer produce. My method for picking the best fruit for my next baking project is usually choosing what fruit I can smell when I first walk into the farmers market. Lately its been strawberries and peaches. ALL the peaches as you will see in my next post. Hint, hint, wink, wink.

But being a citrus lover as I am, I stopped short in my tracks earlier this week when I saw the bags and bags of tiny little key limes, and recalled a yummy treat I had while we were recently vacationing in Sarasota, Florida. While hanging out in a local ice cream shop, I noticed that one of their specialties was chocolate dipped key lime pie. Me being somewhat burned out on ice cream , I decided to try it and found that I very much enjoyed it. So I picked up a few bags of those little key limes and created something similar at home these chocolate dipped key lime pie pops.

Seriously guys, so, so good. I hope you enjoy these chocolate covered key lime pops as much as I do.

Chocolate Dipped Frozen Key Lime Pies

Many years ago , Bryan and I liked to watch a Food Network show, Road Tasted. It doesnt exist any more. Back then, it was hosted by Jamie and Bobby Deen. They went around the country and tried many well-known food. The best part was that all of those food can be shipped to your home. I was crazy enough and ordered some kringles and deep dish pizzas. Both were fantastic and it was well worth it!

When the Deen brothers were in Key West, Florida, they went to Blond Giraffe for chocolate dipped frozen key lime pie on a stick. The pies looked absolutely delicious, especially with the dripping chocolate. I was totally drooling while watching. Unfortunately, the shipping cost was pricey. I didnt order any, but I swear that I would hunt down these pies when I visit Key West. Sadly, I still havent been to Florida to this day. One day

Key Lime Pie Marshmallow Treats are loaded with graham cracker crumbs, lime zest, coconut and Campfire® Marshmallows then drenched in a rich chocolate coating.

We just got home from Florida, approximately 4 hours and 32 minutes ago. And we drove, because what better way to test your relationship than to travel to Florida in a car for 17 hours and 56 minutes with a teething 6 month old? There is no better way. Trust me.

Elle was such a trooper, and although I cued the dramatics as soon as I started this post, things were pretty uneventful. Well, except for the ginormous accident aftermath we saw 5 minutes into our voyage back to Ohio. It basically had me breathing in and out of a Chick-fil-A bag and demanding that we just stay in Florida forever.

We stayed on Gasparilla Island, which is pretty much my favorite place. After seeing my and reading this post, Ive received a few emails from readers asking about this gorgeous vacation spot, so Ill definitely fill you in on all the details in the coming weeks.

I had a desperate craving for marshmallow treats, and then I got to thinking about that Key Lime Pie dipped in chocolate. I thought what better way to kick them a notch than to load them with lime zest and drench them in chocolate? Im fairly certain theyll immediately transport you to a tropical climate even if youre sitting on your brothers couch in Ohio after a gazillion hour roadtrip

    Let’s Start With The Pie

So for chocolate dipped key lime pie you need to start with a delicious key lime pie. I highly recommend this one. It’s super simple, and freezes wonderfully. The filling is sweet, creamy & tart essential for a traditional key lime pie. The graham cracker crust is thick and gives great texture to compliment the filling and goes well with chocolate.

The one thing about this recipe is that you have to wait between chilling the pie after it’s baked and then, freezing the slices. You definitely want to make sure the pie has had the right amount of time to chill and then you really want to slices to be frozen. The last thing you want is for the key lime pie slices to be falling apart when you dip them in chocolate. It’s worth the wait but it’s the one thing I wanted to mention before you get started.

    Chocolate Dipped Key Lime Pie

How could key lime pie get any better?! Easy – cover it in dark chocolate! Frozen Key Lime Pie slices dipped in dark chocolate to give you all the sweet, creamy, tart, chocolate covered magic all on a popsicle stick. Chocolate Dipped Key Lime Pie might sounds kinda crazy to put together but guess what, if you’ve already made a key lime pie you’re half way there.

Key Lime Pie On A Stick

You know youre a food blogger when you decide you want to make Key Lime Pie bars and you already have everything you need. Labor Day is the official end of summer.

It makes me so sad. I embrace the beach days with no schedules. I thought I would squeeze one more summer treat in before I bring on the soups and casseroles.

Were an hour and a half from the Florida Keys and take advantage of the tropical atmosphere as often as we can.

At certain gas stations along the long road down to the keys they sell slices of key lime pie, frozen, and dipped in Belgian chocolate. They are one of my favorite treats ever.

I realize that not everyone is a fan of the tart key lime pie but if you are, you will appreciate this dessert as well as these Coconut Lime Swig Cookies.

I used this key lime juice. They sell it by the lemon and regular lime juice.

You could definitely squeeze it yourself with fresh key limes but theyre not available in all areas. You could even use regular limes but it wont be quite as potent.

Start by making your key lime pies. I started with my favorite graham cracker crust and then filled it with the easiest key lime pie filling ever only 3 ingredients. I bake mine for 15 minutes and they were perfect.

Using cupcake tins is the perfect way to make small versions of the key lime pie. Im sure you could make an actual pie and then slice it but that seemed way too involved. You could probably get away with not using paper liners but I thought it made it easier.

Luscious Chocolate Covered Frozen Key Lime Pie Bites are perfect for summertime entertaining. Theyre easy-to-make, no-bake, and require only a few minutes of hands on prep time.

Ive teamed up with Athens Foods for todays post. I recently returned from Florida where I couldnt resist ordering chocolate covered frozen key lime pie on a stick. Its cool and refreshing and a must have on a hot Florida summers day. When I got home, I decided it would be fun to create a bite size version.

These no-bake Chocolate Covered Frozen Key Lime Pie Bites start with Athens pre-made, recipe-ready Mini Fillo Shells as the base. Youll find the Mini Fillo Shells in the freezer section at the supermarket. The shells are crisp and flaky and come in little plastic trays so the shells dont get crushed or broken.

I loaded up the shells with a creamy, tart key lime pie filling that doesnt contained eggs, so you dont have to bake them. Once the shells are filled and frozen, you simply melt the chocolate in the microwave and drizzle chocolate over the top of the bites.

Then to make the bites pretty, I topped them with a little whipped cream, a thinly sliced wedge of lime, and a little lime zest. The decoration is optional, but it does dress them up nicely for a party.

I used a dipping tool to hold the bite over the bowl of chocolate, but a regular fork would work as well.

Chocolate Covered Key Lime Pie On A Stick In Key West Florida

Yes frozen key line pie. A thousand times this. I went to Key West a couple years back. The frozen one was probably the best, out of the 10ish ones we tried.

There’s a key lime pie shop in Red Hook, Brooklyn that makes something similar called The Swingle . This prompted me to check up on how they were doing, especially after the neighborhood was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy a few years back, and apparently they’ve got some beef with what I can only assume is the shop that OP was at. Their website

Ah, the Swingle, our famous 4-inch key lime tart, hand-dipped in a rich Belgian dark chocolate. This is the real deal people, and listen-up, not all chocolate-dipped key lime treats are created equal. We noticed recently that one of the more popular key lime shops in Key West uses a different recipe for his chocolate-dipped slices. When we made an inquiry, we got an oddly worded reply.

Yes, the pies used to make our pie bars are made differently than our traditional key lime pie because egg yolks tend to get a gummy consistency when they are eaten while still frozen
