How Do You Make A Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie

First, take your frozen, store-bought crust out of the freezer. Let it come to room temperature while you prepare the filling.

Start with the dry ingredients: whisk together the brown sugar, spices, and salt.

Now move on to the wet ingredients. In the same bowl, add the eggs and whisk to combine.

Then add the pumpkin. Whisk some more.

And finally add the half and half. You guessed it. Whisk one more time!

Put the thawed crust on a baking tray. This makes the transfer into the oven a bit easier and helps to keep the pie somewhat level when you move it. Pour the filling into the thawed crust.

Bake until the filling just barely jiggles in the middle of the pie. Will there be cracks? Maybe. Probably. And that is ok. The pie will taste great. Add a dollop of sweetened whipped cream on top to finish it off.

Our Final Thoughts On The Best Gluten Free Pizza Bases

What we loved.

We loved the fact that all these pizza bases were so different. I could have approached these businesses and ended up with 9 identical looking and tasting pizza bases but no, there is so much choice out there, The fun bit is finding out for yourselves which one suits your tastes but hopefully this round up with images has helped sift out the best ones for you to try.

We loved the fact that all the pizza bases had long lives and were freezable, great for keeping stocked up and baking when the pizza cravings strike.

What we would change.

I think Calvins Free From have nailed the packaging. Im not sure how costly or viable this would be for other brands but to have a resealable bag is excellent. Im reducing my plastic waste and dont have clingfilm or plastic sandwich bags in the house so if we were to open a double pack it would be difficult to store the second base for another day.

Our top tips

If the pizza base is ghostly pale in colour dont assume it will go golden on cooking, our top tip here would be to brush the crust with egg ideally but if this is not possible use a milk or milk substitute

Tasting notes: Buttery in flavor, flaky, delicious, hard to believe that it is gluten-free.

Structure notes: A little bit of shrinkage with pre-baking, as expected, crust held pumpkin pie perfectly well.

RECOMMEND. When I first reviewed the Wholly Wholesome Gluten-free crust in 2017, I gave it a very poor rating it tasted bad and fell apart. Since then, the company has reworked their recipe and now I can wholeheartedly recommend this crust if you are looking for a gluten-free option. The crust is delicious and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and a regular flour crust.
