KFC Classic Chicken Pot Pie REVIEW ð?ð¥§

Kentucky Fried Chicken may have been known for its buckets of fried chicken ever since opening its first franchise location in 1952. But since it began selling pot pies in 1995 , they have arguably become just as much of a staple on the menu. Originally introduced as a limited edition item in a select part of the country, KFC’s pot pies didn’t sound destined to take off all that significantly . However, the fast food chain decided to officially add them to its regular menu. In 2012, HuffPost reported that pot pies were made available in all the KFC locations across the U.S. Since then, they have become one of KFC’s most popular items.

Fast Food Menu Prices reports that marketing the pot pie as nostalgic comfort food played a major role in its long-term success. By continuing to use retro themes, imagery, and music in their commercials, KFC managed to turn an old-fashioned favorite into a trendy throwback . If you count yourself among the pot pies’ fans, you may have wondered what makes them so good and, perhaps more importantly, what goes into making them at all. A video by a KFC employee apparently revealed how they’re made.

Are They Worth It

If you do decide to purchase a Pot Pie regardless of nutrition, its worth it. Its a delicious classic comfort food meal that satisfies cravings and nostalgia. Of course, no one would eat one every day, but its there for you when you need it. The pie is made from scratch daily, the chicken is never frozen, and the ingredients are fresh. Will you possibly end up in a food coma? Maybe. Is it worth it? Totally.

Kfc Is Committed To Reducing Food Waste

An obvious and perhaps underrated benefit of KFC pot pies is that they reduce food waste, something the company seems to care a fair deal about. In a 2020 press release on its website, KFC affirmed its commitment to keeping perfectly edible chicken from being needlessly tossed out. KFC Italia has even spent years encouraging customers to take home their uneaten chicken for later. Parent company Yum! Brands revealed that unused chicken is also donated to hunger relief organizations throughout the U.S. That effort is an extension of Harvest, KFC’s food donation program, which began combating food insecurity in 1999.

KFC donates a serious amount of chicken over 83 million pounds since Harvest started. In March, QSR reported that the chain would donate a million pieces of chicken to Meals on Wheels to help the elderly. Of course, quality control concerns mean some chicken can’t be donated or turned into pot pie filling. As a KFC manager explained in a Reddit AMA, “We have holding times on everything, so if it’s not sold within a specified time it’s thrown.”

Though not all the food can be saved, KFC seemingly pulls out all the stops to do so. Making pot pies with leftover chicken, therefore, isn’t just the restaurant being cheap or trying to get away with stretching its product for as long as possible. So even if you’re not a fan of the upcycling involved in KFC’s pot pie recipe, there’s no denying that it aids in a worthy cause.

How To Reheat Chicken Pot Pie In The Microwave

Copycat KFC Chicken Pot Pie Recipe

Although the microwave is the most rapid method to reheat, it is not the most efficient. It is still possible to reheat your chicken pot pie in the microwave and get a tasty meal out of it, but there is the risk to make the crusty top a little soggy.

As the pastry closes the hearty, soft filling, the heat might allow it to create a condensed layer that will make the top a little mushy. The core of your chicken pot pie will come out incredibly well, though.

To overcome this issue and to speed up the warming up process, it is best if you cut and reheat a chicken pot pie slice at a time.

Just make sure to place your chicken pot pie on a microwave-safe plate, and it is extremely important you do not use any aluminum or aluminum wrapping in the microwave as it can be very dangerous.

Here are the steps to reheat chicken pot pie in the microwave:

  • Cut your chicken pot pie into regular slices
  • Place a slice of your chicken pot pie in a microwave-safe dish and put it in the microwave
  • Set the microwave to the lowest setting and reheat for about two minutes
  • Check if the filling is warm enough. If it is still cold, reheat for an extra minute
  • If it is hot enough, take it out of the microwave and serve!

This month KFC has chosen to feature a true, blue blooded, thoroughbred classic as its featured menu item. The skies were lit on fire this week, when the Chunky Chicken Pot Pie was jettisoned from its holster at a blazing, bold price of $3.99. Pot Pies tickle my soul with a home cooked, comforting , soul soothing, mystical nature that seems to slow the rotation of the earth. Ive never had the pleasure of trying KFCs Classic. But whenever fast food eateries bust out this kind of terminology, I feel like its part of my duty to the world to test out these sometimes wild claims.

The makeup of the Chunky Chicken Pot Pie is somewhat radical considering that all of the ingredients incorporated in it, dont show up anywhere else on the menu. This type of thing scares me, but its hard to screw up grilled chicken, potatoes, peas, carrots, gravy, wrapped up in a puff pastry. I have trouble deciding whether I like saying puff pastry or pot pie more.

I stuck my fork into the middle of the pie like I was the first astronaut striking a flag into Mars. Steam and even more aromas erupted into my nose like a renegade fire cracker. I was so excited I didnt know where to begin with the contents. I did my best to try and encapsulate a full figured bite, pie crust and all. I can say flat out that I was overwhelmed with down, home, old school flavors.

Kfc Sued By Maine Man Claiming He Found Bone In Chicken Pot Pie

One Maine man is taking the fast food chain to court, claiming he found a bone in a chicken pot pie in 2015.

    Well, thats unappetizing.

A man in Maine filed a lawsuit against Kentucky Fried Chicken on Wednesday, alleging that he found a bone in his chicken pot pie, The Sun Journal reports

According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 28, 2015, Willie A. Blanchette ordered a chicken pot pie from KFCs Scarborough location. After taking a few bites, he sustained significant damage to several teeth when hit down on a large piece of bone that was contained in the dish, according to his complaint filed in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

The man claims he suffered great pain and suffering and mental anguish requiring medical treatment after chowing down on the pot pie in 2015.

The Auburn resident further claims he experienced great pain and suffering and mental anguish requiring medical treatment for which the chain is liable.

The permanent damages he sustained while eating the pie have caused Blanchette loss of enjoyment of life, the suit says.

As he seeks undisclosed damages plus attorneys fees and costs, it remains unclear as to why he is pressing charges just now.

Serena Wheeler, a manager at the Scarborough location, told the Sun Journal she had not previously heard of the complaint.

KFC returned Fox News request for comment with the following statement:

Kentucky Fried Chicken Has a Kentucky Pot Pie...in Australia

While KFC’s Fresh vs. Classic commercial boasts that “KFC’s pot pie is as fresh as it is classic,” footage by one KFC employee suggests otherwise. A since-deleted TikTok video posted by @modaciouss that’s now viewable on shows a batch of the restaurant’s signature pot pies being made, beginning with a tub of white powder that forms gravy when combined with water. The employee then whisks in a bag of veggies and tops the mixture off with cooked chicken from two separate Ziploc bags. @modaciouss doesn’t speak in the video, but one self-identified former manager commenting on a Reddit AMA said, “Pot pies are made with chicken left over after close. The chicken is deboned and shredded by hand. The chicken is separated into bags.”

It might sound less than appealing to use leftover chicken in a freshly baked pot pie, but this method happens to be how traditional pot pie is made. Eater reveals that chicken pot pies have contained leftover meat for centuries. So while KFC’s pot pie may not be entirely fresh in the classic sense of the word, the recipe sounds pretty close to authentic.

Scoop The Mixture Into The Pie Tins And Cut The Pastry

Now that you’ve finished your mix, it’s time to put the chicken pot pies together. You should have 5 ½-inch pie tins for every little individual one. Scoop a little bit of the mixture into each one. Feel free to use the above photo as a guide to see how full they should be.

Once you scoop the mixture into the tins, cut the pastry into 6-inch circles. Cover each pie tin with dough, and then press firmly around the rim to seal. Now, your little creations should start looking way more like pies and oh-so adorable
