What Is A Moon Pie
A Moon Pie is a sweet treat made from marshmallow sandwiched between two graham cookies which is then dipped in a flavored coating. While the chocolate coating is the most traditional and classic version, other Moon Pie flavors include salted caramel, banana, vanilla, strawberry, and more.
This sweet treat is not to be confused with Mooncakes, a traditional Chinese baked product typically made during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

We didnt have very high hopes for this one since the idea of a pumpkin shandy seems odd, but this beer smelled amazing except the fragrance was like that of a pumpkin spice latte and not a beer. Leinenkugels offering was overwhelmingly sweet with a super light roast, which isnt what we wanted from a fall or winter beer, leading to its low flavor score.

Ole Smoky White Lightnin Moonshine

Although a little more subdued than Ole Smokys Blue Flame moonshine, its White Lightnin still packs a punch! Its crafted from 100% neutral grains and has been conceived to be easy to mix into your favourite cocktails.

Ole Smoky Apple Pie Moonshine

Ole Smoky offers its apple pie moonshine in two concentrations of alcohol depending on your preference. You can either opt for the headier 35% ABV or instead settle for a lighter 20% ABV. Both are equally pleasant and very easy to drink.
If you find Sugarlands too sweet, Ole Smokys apple pie moonshine is drier with a greater focus on cinnamon spice. Indeed, the apple cider helps deliver a more bitter and tart palate, which some people may prefer.

Despite being best known as an illicitly-produced alcoholic spirit, moonshine has evolved into a legitimate business in recent years. Playing on its nostalgic black market connotations, its become a popular beverage for those wishing to experience a slice of rustic Americana.

Sugarlands experiments with unique flavours and ingredients to concoct some intriguing beverages. One of our favourites that surprised us the most was Sugarlands Root Beer moonshine. Its an original beverage, which combines sassafras root, vanilla, and wintergreen with a crisp alcoholic spirit.
Although still sweet, it has a more herbal and complex bouquet than most flavoured moonshine. Therefore, if youre after something that breaks from the norm, this would be an excellent choice!

Saint Luna Charcoal Filtered Moonshine

The Southern Distilling Company has chosen a different approach to the production of its moonshine. Rather than follow the trend for rustic mason jars that emulate a homemade product, it has opted to create a premium product.
Produced from locally-sourced molasses and rye, the distillate is charcoal filtered in order to produce a pure spirit. By following scientific methodology, its moonshine offers a complex character with an elegant finish.

In Maine, we noticed an enormously popular thing that is regarded as a particularly Maine item: the Whoopie Pie. A Whoopie Pie looks like a giant Moon Pie. Why Are Moonpies Called Moonpies
is said to be named after a coal miner from Kentucky. The name Moon Pie derives from a miners request that the Moonshine be larger than the Moon. He asked for graham cracker and marshmallows to be incorporated with the moonshine. Chattanooga Bakery produced more than 100 items at the time, but Moon Pies were on sale.

My new novel is set in the Civil Rights period in Mississippi, and I have one of the main characters, a guy who is down from Detroit, become addicted to Moon Pies during his stay. It is a bit of color that takes on significance as the story is told.
I personally have never been interested in being a Stuckeys of the comic strip. Like somebody who is cataloging southern eccentricities. But because it is part of our backdrop, you need to acknowledge it. I see these things as part of our marinade. I am not interested in celebrating it, like those places that have the Forget Hell! signs. I am more interested in chronicling. I am revolted by a kind of minstrel-show-Arent-we-quirky? image of southerners. It is kind of what Hollywood does to the South.
But I am interested in being authentic. There were hot tamale stands in Mississippi. People did eat Moon Pie. But if we report it, it seems grotesque. And yet for us it is our backdrop. That is what we lived, and it was no big deal. It was just like the heat and the kudzu, just there.
So the Moon Pie sounds like a cliché, but actually I do like the pies. I always feel a tug when I go through the Harris Teeter. I feel I really should not be eating those. I do not like the health food version. I want the straight up pie. I like the ones with the yellow dye number two, the nana flavor.

Tennessee Brewery Is Selling Moon Pie Beer
What will they think of next? A Chattanooga, Tennessee, brewery has pulled out all the stops and taken one of the souths most iconic childhood treats and turned it into an adult beverage.
In 1917, a Kentucky coal miner asked a traveling salesman for a snack as big as the moon. The salesman obliged and returned later with the first Moon Pie, a chocolate covered marshmallow snack layered with flaky graham crackers. The rest is history! We doubt either of those men ever predicted that the snack would become beloved world-wide, or that the treat would eventually be transformed into a beer.
The beer that hung the moon was created by the brilliant minds at Naked River Brewing Company and is made with 100% fresh-baked Moon Pies from Chattanoogas own Moon Pie factory. MoonPie became famous as the Workingmans Lunch, Now our MoonPie Stout is the Workingmans Reward, the website reads.
