  • Vegetable Oil Itll give the melted chocolate a glossy finish.
  • Red Food Coloring Using red gives the chocolate a pastel pink hue. It doesnt have to be red, though. Use whatever color you like. Just be sure to use gel food coloring!

Gather The Ingredients For This Copycat Starbucks Cake Pops Recipe

To get started on making your own copycat Starbucks Birthday Cake Pops, it’s important to have all of the necessary ingredients on hand and ready before diving in on the process. Based on Starbucks’ website description, these cake pops are a simple combination of vanilla cake with frosting, which is then dipped in a pink coating. Of course, white sprinkles top them off for a splash of celebration. But that simple combination also comes with plenty of hard-to-pronounce ingredients in the mix. We chose to skip that part.

For this copycat Starbucks cake pops recipe, you’ll need a baked vanilla cake, vanilla frosting, pink candy melts for the coating, white nonpareil sprinkles, and lollipop sticks. You can use a store-bought vanilla cake mix paired with a tub of frosting, or you can make these entirely from scratch. If you can’t find pink candy melts, vanilla almond bark with a few drops of red food coloring will work as well.

For the cake, you’ll need 1-¼ cups of sugar, half a cup of butter, two eggs, two teaspoons of pure vanilla extract, 1-¼ cups of flour, 1-¾ teaspoons of baking powder, half a teaspoon salt, and ¾ cup milk. For the vanilla frosting, you’ll need an additional ¼ cup of butter, two cups of powdered sugar, an additional tablespoon of milk, and half a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.

Can You Make Them Ahead Of Time

Yes, we make these ahead of time. I prepare the cake and roll into balls. Then place them in the refrigerator for up to a month. When you are ready to decorate, just pull them out and complete the process.

The Starbucks Birthday Cake Pops and Chocolate Cake Pops are my kids favorite. So I always make sure to have them prepared for their birthday.

Sprinkle & Display Cake Pops

Once cake pops are good and frosted, insert caramel apple sticks through them and use a Styrofoam block to display and transport your goodies. I added a drop more of the white chocolate coating on top and smoothed out with my spoon before applying the white sprinkles. Pop the cake pops in the fridge once more for 10 minutes to seal the deal, then you are ready to party with these better than Starbucks cake pops!

Starbucks Cake Pops...one of FAVORIS birthday my babies favorites! # ...

Once the cake balls for these copycat Starbucks cake pops are formed, it’s time to add the lollipop sticks. But you’ll want to have something to secure the sticks into the cake first. Don’t just push the sticks into the cake balls. They’re likely to fall off during the dipping process.

Start by melting the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Put the bowl in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Stir the candy melts, return the bowl to the microwave, and continue heating in ten-second intervals. Be sure to stir in between each heating, and only heat until melted and smooth. Be sure not to overheat.

Once the candy melts are ready, dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted coating and push the stick into the cake ball. Avoid pushing the stick all the way through and piercing the other side of the cake ball. Continue this step until all of the cake balls have dipped sticks. Then, place the full baking sheet in the freezer on a flat surface and allow the candy melt coating to harden and set for at least 15 minutes.

Tips For The Best Cake Pops

  • Let the cake cool completely before crumbling it and adding the frosting. A warm cake will also make the frosting warm, which will make the mixture difficult to form. Bake the cake a day in advance, if you can.
  • Cut off the crispy edges of the cake. These will make the cake pops fall apart. If you dont want to waste them , you could blitz them in a food processor and add them to the mix. Just be sure there are no big chunks.
  • Crumble the sponge finely so the cake pops will easily roll and hold their shape. Large chunks of cake will make them hard to shape.
  • Put just the right amount of frosting not too much, not too little. The best way to know is to add the frosting gradually until you reach the right consistency. Use a scoop or spoon and try to roll the mixture in your hands.
  • If it falls apart, add a little more frosting.
  • If its mushy in your hands, youll need extra cake.
  • If you have a very moist cake, use less frosting than you normally would. Again, just go slowly. Add the frosting a little at a time, and be sure to mix it thoroughly before adding more.
  • Use a mini ice cream or cookie scoop to form the cake mix into balls. This will ensure you create even cake pops.
  • Chill the balls in the freezer for at least 1 hour. If you dont have room in the freezer, leave them in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
  • Dont take out all the truffles at once to coat them in chocolate. Instead, only work on 5-6 balls at a time, and keep the rest in the freezer.
