Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl

Nothing Bundt Cake / Confetti Cake

Peanut butter and chocolate is a winning pairing, which is why we’re genuinely shocked to rank Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl so low. The issues surrounding this cake come not from the quality of the bake by all accounts, it’s not a bad dessert but from the combination of flavors. Facebook commenters found that the signature cream cheese icing actually clashed with the peanut butter cake in an unpleasant way. One person wrote, “The cake flavor itself is ok but mixed with the icing it tastes strange. Wouldn’t recommend.” Another complained about the small amount of chocolate in the batter, which kind of defeats the purpose of the word “swirl” in the name. How can it be called Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl if there’s barely any swirl to be found?

All the cakes’ components are tasty on their own the cake, the frosting, and the peanut butter and chocolate, of course. But paired together, it’s a surprising let-down. We think using peanut butter or chocolate-flavored icing instead would be a massive improvement, as did many of the reviewers above. There are so many delicious Nothing Bundt Cakes flavors to choose from that get it right. Compared to hits like Lemon Raspberry or Pumpkin Spice, this one sadly doesn’t cut it.

While the cake is baking, you can prepare your cream cheese frosting. If you like, you can make the frosting a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator.

Place the room temperature cream cheese and butter in a bowl. Using a whisk attachment of your stand mixer or a hand mixer, beat the mixture until it’s light and fluffy, about three minutes. Add the vanilla and 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar. Beat the sugar until it’s smooth and creamy before adding another 1/2 cup. Continue until all the sugar is added and everything is well mixed. Taste the frosting and add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter frosting.

From there, you can store the frosting in the refrigerator in the bowl, but we think it’s easier to store it in a piping bag, as the frosting stiffens as it cools. Use a rubber spatula to remove the frosting from the bowl and scoop it into a piping bag with a large, round piping tip. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a plastic bag instead.

    • Devils food or dark chocolate fudge cake mix* | I do not recommend using an all natural or the Ghirardelli cake mixes for this recipe, as the volume is different and will yield a very dense cake.
    • Instant chocolate pudding mix | used Godiva Dark or Milk Chocolate, available with regular pudding mixes
    • Sour Cream | I use full fat sour cream, and have also substituted with whole milk Greek yogurt
    • Vanilla Extract | Love using my homemade vanilla extract.
    • Eggs | I use large eggs in all of my baking, room temperature is best
    • Milk | Whole milk is what I used, but may substitute plant based milk, water, or buttermilk
    • Vegetable Oil | I love using heart healthy Avocado oil

Nothing Bundt Cakes Serves Up Nothing Bundt Quality Ingredients

According to Food and Drink International, Nothing Bundt Cakes is dedicated to using quality ingredients, so rest assured that you’ll never find preservatives or additives in any of their desserts. Only real eggs, fresh butter, and real cream cheese make the cut, resulting in a cake that tastes just like home. Nothing Bundt Cakes are baked fresh on-site, daily. And while the dry ingredients are shipped from corporate, all of the dairy and eggs are purchased locally, per Munchie Musings.

There’s such a focus on flavor, in fact, that founders Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz tested over 100 varieties of vanilla before landing on the perfect organic one they currently use. Each cake is outrageously moist and will stay fresh in your refrigerator for up to five days. Want to buy one in advance of a big party? No problem, they freeze beautifully! Just be sure to thaw at room temperature a few hours before serving. For comprehensive instructions on storing and serving your Nothing Bundt Cake, check out their website.

    Employees Get Free Cake

As one can imagine, working for Nothing Bundt Cakes seems to come with lots of tasty benefits. When asked what it is like to be an employee at the bakery, one Indeed user responds, “It’s such a great place to work. Every time I tell someone I work at NBC they go on about how much they love it and how much fun it must be for me to work in an environment like that.” Another reports that employees are welcome to take home damaged and rejected cakes, free of charge.

That seems like an amazing perk but it begs the question: How do they stop themselves from “accidentally” bumping a warm white chocolate raspberry into a big heavy mixer, or “unintentionally” having a slip of the wrist with the piping bag, resulting in an imperfect flower petal design? The temptation would just be too great, if you ask us!

    Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip nails the peanut butter and chocolate combo. The moist peanut butter cake, combined with chocolate chips and the signature icing, meld seamlessly into a rich dessert that fans of both flavors will crave. It also has a homemade feel to it, like something your mom would bake for your birthday. Customers across the board seem to agree this flavor is one of Nothing Bundt Cakes’ absolute best. “This one is a KEEPER” one Facebook commenter gushed, while another wrote “Why would you get rid of this delectable peanut butter flavor??? It is SO heavenly!!!”

Considering how many delicious recipes Nothing Bundt Cakes whips up, it’s impressive how many people say this is their favorite. Heck, it’s even good enough to serve at the most special of occasions. “You have to make this a permanent flavor,” one implored. “It’s by far your best, and that’s saying something since everything you make is great! Side note: I ordered this flavor for my wedding, and everyone loved it.” It’s surprising a flavor like this is limited-edition, but if Nothing Bundt Cakes is reading this, maybe they’ll start offering it all the time. Take it from us and order it when it’s in stock. It really is that good.

Then Finish Your Nothing Bundt Cakes Copycat Recipe By Frosting The Cake

How to get FREE bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes

Now comes the fun part: frosting the cake. One of the things that makes Nothing Bundt Cakes so fancy is their piped frosting design. It’s much easier than you think, so we suggest giving it a try. If you’re not into it, feel free to spread the frosting out over the entire cake using a knife. You may have to double the cream cheese frosting recipe if you’re going this route to make sure you have enough.

To pipe on the frosting, use a pastry bag with a large, round tip. Or, place the frosting in a plastic bag and cut a hole in one corner. Start at the bottom edge of the cake and squeeze the frosting from the top of the bag, pulling a line of frosting over top of the cake and into the large hole in the center. When you reach the center, pinch off the frosting and repeat the process. You should have about an inch of unfrosted cake in between each frosting line.

When you’re finished, slice the cake into 16 portions and eat it right away. Or, you can loosely cover it with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for up to five days.

    Secret To A Moist Cake

I have tried my hand at several bundt cakes and this chocolate bundt cake is my favorite. What separates this cake from others that Ive tried is how moist it is. Youll be hard-pressed to find a cake as moist as this one. The secret is adding instant pudding mix and sour cream to the mixture. And because you start with a devils food cake mix, its such an easy recipe to make. No worrying about the right amount of cocoa powder or all purpose flour. All of that is taken care of in the dry ingredients of the cake mix. All you have to do is whisk in the sour cream, water and oil and youre all set! Dont forget the chocolate chips, which adds an extra level of richness to the finished product. You could use milk chocolate or semi-sweet, whatever you have on hand.

How Do You Make Box Cake Mix Taste Like A Bakery Cake

  • Ditch the WaterTry substituting whole milk, your favorite plant based milk or even better, buttermilk, but due to the thickness of buttermilk add a few tablespoons more.
  • Flavor in the FatNormally, Id swap out cup for cup melted butter for oil, bu many times I stick with heart healthy avocado oil, then I could call it healthier right? Give it a go and let me know if you do, but in general you can swap out melted butter for the oil in a recipe.
  • Add an Extra Egg Being at high altitude, I have always added an extra egg to my cake mixes, why? The egg white contributes strength and the yolk contains a natural emulsifier that allows batter to hold extra sugar without weakening the overall structure. However in general, if you want a boxed cake mix to taste like a bakery cake or homemade then add an extra egg!
  • Amp Up the FlavorChances are the vanilla might be a little blah in the cake mix, so for all cake mixes add a teaspoon of your favorite vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste or other extract or try homemade bourbon vanilla! In chocolate cake mix, add a teaspoon of espresso powder. Lemon cake mix, add the zest from one lemon, za-zing! White or Vanilla Cake mix, add pure vanilla extract or a teaspoon of vanilla bean paste or even the seeds from a vanilla bean. Or try a little rum, maple or almond extract! Spice or Carrot Cake Mix, use fresh grated nutmeg , an extra teaspoon of cinnamon, definitely a teaspoon of vanilla or tablespoon of rum, brandy or whisky.
