Black Raspberry Pie ~ Husband Bakes With Me!
  • CONVENTIONAL OVEN: 400°F – 410°F
  • CONVECTION OVEN: 360°F – 365°F
  • RACK OVEN: 380°F – 390°F
  • Place unboxed, unwrapped frozen pies on a flat baking sheet. Do not use pan liners.
  • Bake pies for 55-65 minutes.
  • Remove pies from oven and cool to room temperature, approximately 4 hours.
  • Refrigerate after cooled.
  • Planting And Initial Care

Plant your bushes 4 feet apart and spread out the canes when you tie them in. Black raspberries are more vigorous than red raspberries so they need more room. Dig over the area well, remove weeds and add plenty of rich organic material to the soil. Make your planting hole twice the width of the pot and place your plant in the hole. Put back most of the soil and then fill the hole with water. When it has all drained away replace the rest of the soil. Keep young plants well watered during their first season and after that water as needed so that the soil does not become completely dry.

    Tips From The Pillsbury Kitchens

    • tip 1 Don’t have fresh raspberries on hand? No problem. Substitute with frozen raspberries and add an extra teaspoon of cornstarch to help absorb some of the excess juice from the frozen fruit. You may need to bake for a few extra minutes as well.
    • tip 2 Almond complements raspberry flavor nicely. When making your whipped topping, reduce vanilla to 3/4 teaspoon and add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract to add a delicious almond twist to your raspberry pie!
    • tip 3 Be sure to press pie crust firmly into the bottom and sides of the pie plate to keep the pie crust from shrinking during baking.

    More About This Recipe

    • Homemade pie? Oh, pa-leeeze! Who’s got time to make pie? News flash: You do!I’ll admit, I’ve made my share of pies with homemade crusts like my grandma did. There are lots of days, though, when a pie sounds irresistable — but the long prep and mess make it totally resistable. On those days, I head for the fridge to fetch a ready-made crust. Now don’t curl your lips up like that. I didn’t used to be a fan either. But over the years, these refrigerated pie crusts have gone from good to amazing — totally tasty, tender and flaky. And here’s my closing argument: If the decision is whether or not to have a homemade pie for dessert tonight, I’ll take the pie — refrigerated crust and all — every time. I rest my case. So, this is Pillsbury’s super easy recipe for Fresh Raspberry Pie — check it out below — and it’s about the best thing since sliced bread for the 4th of July. Serious delish on a plate. Serious ease on the prep. And if you want to red-white-and-blue it up, just add some blueish sprinkles to the top and your pie’ll be as colorific as the flag.My pie didn’t last long enough for me to add the blue sprinkles. Once I bit into that bite on the fork there, I put the camera down … sigh … and you can guess the rest.More Easy PiesIf you like the idea of making easy pies, these recipes featuring ready-made crusts are for you:Rhu-Berry PieStuffed Crust Strawberry Cream PieHappy 4th of July!

Are your black raspberries sprayed with insecticide?

  • brecknockorchard August 10, 2021

David, We care for our entire farm with your health in mind always trying to limit the amount of pesticides used. We use a method called Integrated Pest Management . IPM is the use of several pest control methods in a way that compliments biological and natural controls of pests. We always keep our economical, public health, and environmental goals at the forefront of our minds. With IPM, a decision to use pesticides is made when the population of that pest reaches numbers that would be detrimental to the quality of a crop, and no other alternative management practices are available. The goal of IPM is to achieve the effective management of pests in the safest manner. For complete growing practices, visit

    Caring And Storage Of Raspberries

Raspberries should be stored in a single layer in a moisture proof container. Do not rinse berries until they are ready to be eaten. Fresh raspberries will store in the refrigerator for about 3 days.

Raspberries may be frozen with great results. To freeze, rinse berries lightly and place on paper towel to soak up extra moisture. Arrange raspberries on baking sheet in single layer and place in freezer until frozen solid. Once frozen, remove berries and place in heavy duty freezer bag or use vacuum sealer. Frozen berries can be stored up to a year.

    Crust For Homemade Berry Pie

    Black Raspberry Pie

This recipe calls for a classic double pastry crust. I like to use a recipe with a healthy amount of sugar in the dough. My favorites are Ina Gartens pie crust and the sweet pie crust recipe in this cookbook. But any classic recipe with flour, butter or shortening, salt, and sugar will work well. If you arent comfortable with making your own pie crust, a store bought one is fine.

Either a lattice top or plain double crust will work. Make sure you cut adequate slits in the top crust because you want all the steam out of the filling while the pie bakes.

THere are some berry pie recipes that use a graham cracker crust, but I dont think it would hold up well with the juicy berries. Stick with a pastry crust.

    Buying Cumberland Black Raspberry Bushes

The Cumberland Black Raspberry is a specially chosen form of the wild plant that has extra-large berries with a great flavor. For this reason new plants must be taken from specially-grown parent bushes that are known to be the correct variety. These take longer to produce than plants grown from seed or from wild bushes, so avoid cheap offers as these will only be a disappointment.

We only sell plants that are known to be the correct Cumberland Black Raspberry, and we are constantly receiving new stock so that our customers receive fresh, healthy plants. However supplies of this special berry bush are limited so order now to avoid disappointment.

Tons Of Large Firm Berries Each Year

Large Berries with Few Seeds Ahhhh, the sweet flavor of black raspberries in the summer-time! What makes the Cumberland Black Raspberry extra special is they grow larger than most, and have very few seeds. The plump berries are more firm than store-bought berries that tend to be quite soft by the time they make it to the produce section. You’ll enjoy a large mid-season harvest year after year.

Easy to Grow The Cumberland Black Raspberry Bush is cold hardy and will withstand subzero temperatures. It can grow almost anywhere and in all types of soil. It’s not a fussy plant and will thrive once planted in the ground. We’ve groomed and nurtured this plant for an extended amount of time. We only ship it out once it is ready to perform. It will arrive with its original full root system intact. This speeds up the process, as the bush doesn’t have to start over establishing a healthy root system. Expect this bush to yield a large bounty early summer every year.

Small Spaces are No Problem You don’t need a large plot of land to grow the Cumberland Black Raspberry bush. This fast-growing plant matures 4-5 feet high and is only 3-4 feet wide. Find a corner that receives full sun and has well-draining soil, and watch it take off. It’s a great addition to your garden but will grow just as strong on its own. It will do best in Zones 5-9.

Order Now This fast-growing tree is a favorite, and we will run out quickly, so order now for fast delivery right to your door.
