    Really I didnt think this could possibly be bad. I love old bay spice and I love crab cakes so what could go wrong?. Well I was right but I had no idea just how right. My whole family loved the crab crack dinner!! My sone even said that mine were better than the restaurant.

    One thing weve enjoyed experimenting over the last month or two has been this recipe. Living near the Chesapeake Bay means that our summer weekends are full of sunny days, cracking crabs, an abundance of sweet corn, Old Bay and the water. Its all incredibly exciting.

    Lets start by gathering the ingredients we need to make Maryland Crab Cakes. In Chef Speak this is called the Mise en Place which translates to Everything in its Place.

    Not only does setting your ingredients up ahead of time speed up the cooking process, it also helps ensure you have everything you need to make the dish.

    Cracker crumbs make the best filler and best breading agent for seafood. You cant always find cracker meal or cracker crumbs at the grocery store, but its easy to make your own out of saltines or club crackers using a food processor or blender. You can also use panko bread crumbs as a substitute.

    What Is Different About Maryland Style Crab Cakes

    A crab cake is only considered a Maryland crab cake when it is made using only the meat from a Maryland blue crab. Blue crabs are the most bountiful around the Chesapeake Bay, and the only real requirement for Maryland-style crab cakes is that they contain meat from blue crabs.

    They are then formed into little patties using egg, mayo and bread crumbs and pan fried.

    This crab cake recipe comes from a very well known seafood restaurant in Annapolis MD, a place my family and I would frequent when we lived in Virginia, who had the most fabulous tartar sauce to go along with these crab cakes.

    How To Make The Best Maryland Crab Cakes

    OUR FAVORITE CRAB CAKES RECIPE + DIPPING SAUCE
    • Place the mayonnaise, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, and lemon juice, in a large bowl.
    • Whisk the ingredients together to completely incorporate the egg into the mixture.
    • Add the crab meat to the mixture and gently fold it into the sauce. Dont mix it in completely.
    • Add the cracker crumbs and parsley to the crab meat mixture and continue to gently mix the ingredients until the cracker crumbs have been incorporated into the crab meat mixture. Be careful not to break up the crab meat.
    • Cover the crab meat mixture and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
    • Divide the crab cake mixture into six portions . Form the crab cakes into round slightly flattened cakes and place crab cakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Refrigerate the Maryland crab cakes until ready to bake.

    Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

    Bake the crab cakes for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Or until youve reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. .
