How To Make A Chocolate Whoopie Pie Recipe
These delicious chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies are easy to make and super fun to eat. A whoopie pie pan will help your cakes bake evenly and consistently, but a cookie sheet works too. This is how its done:
Mix the butter, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, vanilla, and egg together in a large bowl. Once its smooth, add the cocoa and mix again.
Add the flour and milk and continue mixing until you have a smooth, chocolatey batter.
Bake the cakes until theyre firm, then leave them on a wire rack to cool. Prepare the peanut butter frosting while you wait.
Dipping Rice Crispy Peanut Butter Balls Into Chocolate
Once the old-fashioned peanut butter balls are well-chilled, coat them in melted chocolate. I used semi-sweet chocolate bark for this recipe because its not too sweet and not too bitter. If you love white chocolate or dark chocolate feel free to use that instead! But I recommend using chocolate bark, or wafers that are designed for melting. You can use Nestle or a better brand of chocolate chips, but you may need to add a teaspoon of Crisco to get it smooth. Do not use store-brand chocolate chips, as they do not melt properly.
Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at thirty-minute intervals, or use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. Never use wet tools with melted chocolate .
If you dont have any dipping tools, you can easily coat the peanut butter balls in chocolate using a fork and toothpick. Simply toss each ball into the chocolate until fully coated. Use a fork to lift them out of the bowl, tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate. Then use another fork or a toothpick to slide them off of the fork onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Once theyre all coated in chocolate, you will want to refrigerate them for thirty minutes so the chocolate can harden. If desired, drizzle your old-fashioned peanut butter balls with a different color of chocolate. And once theyre chilled, you can either enjoy them or leave them in the refrigerator until youre ready to serve them!

This recipe for no-bake peanut butter chocolate rice crispy treats is similar to peanut butter cups with an added crunchy texture. And they are super easy to make. Mix the peanut butter, melted butter, and powdered sugar. Add the Rice Krispies and stir until mixed. Refrigerate the mixture until chilled to make it easier to handle.
Using a small cookie scoop or a spoon, divide the peanut butter mixture into about twenty-five balls. Gently roll them a bit with your hands to form a nice ball. Place them onto a parchment-lined tray. Now you can freeze the balls for fifteen to twenty minutes or refrigerate them for an hour or more, to get them nice and firm before dipping. These can also be mixed a day ahead and refrigerated overnight.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl then add the egg, beating well until incorporated. Mix in the vanilla and buttermilk. Add the dry ingredients and beat just until combined.
Using a 1-ounce cookie scoop, drop onto the prepared baking sheets at least 2 inches apart, 12 cookies per sheet. Place in the oven and bake for 12 minutes, rotating the sheets halfway through. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool completely.
To make the filling: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the butter, peanut butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Add vanilla and beat until combined.
Using a knife or spoon, spread the filling onto the at side of a cooled cake. Top with another cake, flat side down. Repeat with the remaining cakes and serve.

- In the work bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat together the peanut butter and butter on low speed until smoothy and creamy. Heat the cream in the microwave or over the stove stirring frequently so that it’s heated evenly. Once it begins to boil, remove it from the heat and pour it over the chocolate so it’s all completely covered. Place a lid or plate on top of the bowl to trap the heat for 5 minutes. Then, stir it around with a spatula until it’s creamy and homogenous. It’ll need to cool for a while to thicken before you can assemble the whoopie pies, so I like to do this before I make the cookie dough.
STEP FIVE – Assemble the whoopie pies.Place the thickened ganache in a piping bag with a medium round tip . Pair the cookies up and swirl the ganache onto half of them, and then form the cookie sandwiches!

Can Whoopie Pies Be Frozen
If you have more whoopie pies that you can eat before they go bad, you can also freeze the whoopie pies. If you want to freeze the whoopie pies, you will want to wrap each whoopie pie in plastic wrap and then put the wrapped pies into a freezer bag. This keeps the whoopie pies together in one place in the freezer but it also protects the whoopie pies from getting freezer burn.
Tips For Baking Your Whoopie Pies
Because you start with a cake mix, the batter comes together really quickly. Just make sure your butter is softened so everything incorporates nicely.
The batter should be like a thick cake batter or slightly loose cookie dough. Its a little bit sticky but should be able to mostly hold its shape.
Using a cookie scoop is a great way to evenly portion the dough while also giving them a nice round shape. I used a medium cookie scoop for these and the resulting whoopie pies were relatively large.
