You’ll also notice a statue of a supersized squirrel holding a pecan nearby. The Berdoll family installed the original machine in 2008 to meet the demand for pies and other tasty treats outside regular business hours. The familys famous pecan pie had become so popular that snackers were stopping by at all hours to satisfy their sweet tooth cravings. To keep their customers happy , the farm gift shop installed the vending machine, which is open round-the-clock.
The Berdoll Pecan Farm is a 340-acre farm, 15 miles east of Austin, has been family-owned and -operated for 33 years. Its orchard includes 15,000 trees, which yield five varieties of pecans: Choctaw, Pawnee, Wichita, Kiowa, and Cheyenne.
Unlike the mystery chips in your office vending machine, the pies here are as fresh as can be. The Berdoll Farm machine is restocked every day with freshly baked pies and other nutty delicacies.
