If youve ever had classic banana pudding, you can probably guess whats mixed up in the new shake. It starts with SONICs Real Ice Cream and is blended with fresh banana, banana pudding flavor, and NILLA Wafers. No shake is complete without toppings, and this one includes whipped topping, extra pieces of crumbled vanilla wafers, and a cherry. Gone are the days when you had to make the dessert at home to enjoy it!

Sonic added a banana pudding flavored shake to menus nationwide yesterday, August 2nd, for a limited time. We love banana pudding and ice cream, so of course we had to be among the first people to try the new Sonic Banana Pudding Shake.

We are here to tell you more about this shake and share our opinions of this new summer shake from Sonic.

Sonic Master Blast Milkshakes

Master Blast milkshakes at Sonic are a mix of vanilla ice cream, flavors, fresh fruit, cookies, and candies. They come in chocolate chip cookie dough, peanut butter cookie dough, brownie cookie dough, waffleberry brownie, turtle pecan, and caramel flavors. These flavors can change occasionally, and special, limited-time Master Blasts are sometimes available. Ranging between $3.39 and $5.99, prices for the Master Blast shakes are the highest out of all Sonic milkshakes prices, because they contain the most elaborate ingredients.

The first thing you should know before we really get into this review is that I love banana-flavored anything. Are you one of those insane people who pitch your banana Laffy Taffy or Runts? I will gladly take both off your hands. But my lust isnt relegated to artificial banana flavoring alone, oh no. I am just as wild about bananas that come in a pie or in bread. You might say that I *checks notes* go ape for bananas.

There is, however, one blind spot in my yellow-fruit fanaticism: banana pudding. Honestly, it has less to do with my disinterest in that particular flavor and more to do with the fact that my pudding consumption is probably below average. According to an actual website I saw on the internet, 150 million Americans ate pudding in 2020 Im honestly not sure if I was one of them.

So how, then, would I find Sonics new Banana Pudding Shake? Lets review.

Sonics shake-take on this Southern dessert classic features vanilla ice cream, banana pudding, banana pieces, Nilla wafers, whipped topping, and a maraschino cherry. As expected, this shake is VERY banana-centric.

The pudding was indiscernible from the vanilla ice cream, which was probably due to, you know, the blending process. So really, it ended up tasting like soupy banana ice cream. Thick chunks of banana abounded throughout the concoction necessitating the need for a spoon at times.

Do you guys remember the banana cream pie shake at Sonic?? OMG, I was obsessssssed with it. I would go through the Sonic drive through multiple times a week for that little gem. Something happens when youre sick for many days. You lose your appetite, you watch a few bad movies, you entertain thoughts that you may never be well again. And then one morning, like magic, you wake up and have an appetite. The first thing that sounds delicious: a banana milkshake!

This is a true story. I rarely make milkshakes at home, but after coming out of this awful flu that seems to have taken over our circle of friends here in Seattle, the one thing I kept thinking about was a banana milkshake. And not just any banana milkshake, but a super creamy, slightly chunky one. A dessert that would taste like banana cream pie but in a glass.

At first I figured I could just grind up graham crackers and throw them into the blender along with my other ingredients, but I decided that it wouldnt have quite the same effect as that buttery, toasty graham cracker crust that lines the tins of so many banana cream pies. So I essentially made the buttery crumbs for the crust and used them in my milkshake instead of a pie. Because theyre baked, they dont get soggy in the milkshake and they really do taste like ground up graham cracker pie crust.

As for the milkshake itself, youll notice that the milk measurements range from 3 tablespoons to 1/4 cup. Start slow with the milk its always easy to add more but more difficult if you end up with a liquidy milkshake. You can adjust depending on your tastes here.
