1 You have searched me,f Lord, and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise h you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down you are familiar with all my ways.k

Our Daily Bread 6 May 2022 ODB Daily Devotional Today

4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.

5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

KEY VERSE: You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. Psalm 139:1

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 2122 Luke 23:2656

TODAYS INSIGHT: While Psalm 139 is well known for its description of the greatness of God, theres a subtle irony in its final verses: Search me, God, and know my heart test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting .

Our Daily Bread 6 May 2022 ODB Daily Devotional Today

In a song that in part celebrates the all-knowing nature of God , the irony is that David asked God to search his heart after acknowledging in verse 1 that Hed already searched and known him. And in verse 3 he said, You discern my going out and my lying down you are familiar with all my ways. Perhaps the key point isnt Gods ability to know, but the psalmists willingness to be exposed before Him and His full knowledge.

May 6 2022 Our Daily Bread Devotional Message:

Lea was about to start a job as a nurse in Taiwan. Shed be able to better provide for her family, more than she could in Manila, where job opportunities were limited. On the night before her departure, she gave instructions to her sister, whod be taking care of her five-year-old daughter. Shell take her vitamins if you also give her a spoonful of peanut butter, Lea explained, And, remember, shes shy. Shell play with her cousins eventually. And shes afraid of the dark . . .

While looking out the plane window the next day, Lea prayed: Lord, no one knows my daughter like I do. I cant be with her, but You can.

We know the people we love, and we notice all the details about them because theyre precious to us. When we cant be with them due to various circumstances, were often anxious that since no one knows them as well as we do theyll be more vulnerable to harm.

In Psalm 139, David reminds us that God knows us more than anyone does. In the same way, He knows our loved ones intimately . Hes their Creator , so He understands their needs. He knows what will happen each day of their lives , and Hes with them and will never leave them .

When youre anxious for others, entrust them to God for He knows them best and loves them the most.

Who can you entrust to Gods care? How can you show your trust in Him in this area?

Our Daily Bread For Today 7th April 2022 Devotional Thursday Message Written By Karen Huang

TOPIC: Real Hospitality

TODAYS SCRIPTURE: Genesis 24:1220

KEY VERSE: Offer hospitality to one another . . . use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of Gods grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:910

BIBLE IN A YEAR: 1 Samuel 79 Luke 9:1836

TODAYS INSIGHT: Some might believe that the prayer of Abrahams servant equated to testing God . But the servant was in no way trying to manipulate the Almighty. He lived in a thoroughly pagan culture that habitually sought the guidance of false gods and inanimate idols. His prayer indicates a deep abiding faith in the one true God. The servant brought the challenge facing him to God, and He honoured that faith. Verse 15 states that before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. Whenever we truly turn to God, He meets us where we are.

TOPIC: PRIDE AND DECEPTION

Bible in a Year:Ezra 910 Acts 1

Key Verse:The pride of your heart has deceived you. Obadiah 1:3

Todays Scripture:Obadiah 1:14

The book of Obadiah is a prophecy written for the people of Israel, but the prophecy has to do with the nation of Edom located to the south of Israel. The people of Edom were the descendants of Esau, Jacobs twin brother, making them close relatives of the Israelite people. This is why Israel was forbidden to hate the Edomites . But the tense relationship between Jacob and Esau continued among their descendants.

The Edomites wouldnt allow the Israelites to pass through their land during their journey to Canaan . And Edom stood by when Jerusalem was ransacked . Because of this indifference to their brothers plight, Edom would be brought down . This prophecy is repeated in Ezekiel 35. After the death of Herod the Great , the nation and people of Edom eventually disappeared from the historical record, fulfilling the prophecies against them. By: J.R. Hudberg

Insight on Genesis 16:716

By: Arthur Jackson

Early mornings can be painful for my friend Alma, a single mom of two. She says, When everything is quiet, worries surface. As I do household chores, I think about our financial concerns and the kids health and studies.

When her husband abandoned her, Alma bore the responsibility of raising her children on her own. Its difficult, she says, but I know God sees me and my family. He gives me the strength to work two jobs, provides for our needs, and lets my kids experience His guidance each day.

Hagar, an Egyptian maidservant, understood what it meant to be seen by God. After she got pregnant by Abram, she began to despise Sarai , who in turn mistreated her, causing Hagar to flee to the desert. Hagar found herself alone, facing a future that seemed bleak and hopeless for her and her unborn child.

But it was in the desert that the angel of the Lord met her and said, The Lord has heard of your misery . The angel of God gave Hagar guidance on what to do, and He assured her of what the future would hold. From her we learn one of the names of GodEl Roi, the God who sees me .

Like Hagar, you may be on a difficult journeyfeeling lost and alone. But remember that even in the wasteland, God sees you. Reach out to Him and trust Him to guide you through.

God Cleans The Stains

Today for our Monday Motivation we shared a special devotional out of Our Daily Bread called God Cleans The Stains. With a humble and repentant heart, we must acknowledge our sins and place them under the cleansing light of Gods holiness. We must turn from them and return to Him. And He, the only One who cleans the stains of the soul, will offer us complete forgiveness and renewed fellowship. To read the full devotional click HERE.

Todays Monday Motivation song is the latest from Josh Wilson Things That Im Afraid Of

An amazing line from that song says,

My fears would surely kill meIf I didnt know the truthThe things that Im afraid ofAre afraid of You

Its so reassuring to remember that God already won the battle and that we are not to be afraid because he has us in his arms.

Odb Today Devotional Message

The writer of Lamentations isnt named, but there are reasons to believe Jeremiah wrote this book. Having prophesied for some forty-seven years to a disobedient, disbelieving Judah, Jeremiah writes as an eyewitness, lamenting the destruction and devastation that occurred when the Babylonian army marched into Jerusalem. For two years , Nebuchadnezzar besieged the city. Second Kings 25:14 tells of the desperate conditions within it .

Jeremiah witnessed the eventual destruction of the city and temple . In five emotionally charged dirges or funeral laments, Jeremiah describes the sufferings of the people and the reasons for them. The prophet also writes of hope in the midst of despair . God, who has rightly judged their unfaithfulness, is still their hope. Hes the God of compassion, faithfulness, and salvation . By: K. T. Our Daily Bread Today Message

In 2006, my dad was diagnosed with a neurological disease that robbed him of his memory, speech, and control over body movements. He became bedridden in 2011 and continues to be cared for by my mom at home. The beginning of his illness was a dark time. I was fearful: I knew nothing about caring for a sick person, and I was anxious about finances and my moms health.

Reflect: In the midst of difficulty, where do you go for strength? How can you remind yourself to trust in Gods great love?

Prayer: Father, help me to keep trusting You. Open my eyes so I can see Your love and faithfulness.

Our Daily Bread 30th September 2021 Devotional Message:

Overwhelmed in a Good Way | Psalm 61:1â2 | Our Daily Bread Video Devotional

Seated at the dining room table, I gazed at the happy chaos around me. Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews were enjoying the food and being together at our family reunion. I was enjoying it all, too. But one thought pierced my heart: Youre the only woman here with no children, with no family to call your own.

Many single women like me have similar experiences. In my culture, an Asian culture where and children are highly valued, not having a family of ones own can bring a sense of incompleteness. It can feel like youre lacking something that defines who you are and makes you whole.

Thats why the truth of God being my portion is so comforting to me . When the tribes of Israel were given their allotments of land, the priestly tribe of Levi was assigned none. Instead, God promised that He Himself would be their portion and inheritance . They could find complete satisfaction in Him and trust Him to supply their every need.

For some of us, the sense of lack may have nothing to do with family. Perhaps we yearn for a better job or higher academic achievement. Regardless of our circumstances, we can embraceGod as our portion. He makes us whole. In Him, we have no lack.

When You Cant Go On

Because of the Lords great love we are not consumed . . . great is faithfulness. Lamentations 3:2223

The words of Lamentations 3:22 helped me get up many mornings when the light was as gray as the state of my heart: Because of the Lords great love we are not consumed. The Hebrew word for consumed means to be used up completely or to come to an end.

Gods great love enables us to go on, to get up to face the day. Our trials may feel overwhelming, but we wont be destroyed by them because Gods love is far greater!

There are many times I can recount when God has shown His faithful, loving ways to my family. I saw His provision in the kindness of relatives and friends, the wise counsel of doctors, financial provision, and the reminder in our hearts thatone daymy dad will be whole again in heaven.

If youre going through a dark time, dont lose hope. God can help you to not be consumed by what you face. Keep trusting in His faithful love and provision for you.

In the midst of difficulty, where do you go for strength? How can you remind yourself to trust in Gods great love?

Our Daily Bread 14 June 2022 Odb Tuesday Message

Loving God, thank You for Your gentle, nudging correction. With my shoulders slumped, I murmured those difficult words. Ive been so arrogant, thinking I could do it all on my own. For months, Id been enjoying successful work projects, and the accolades lulled me into trusting my capabilities and rejecting Gods leading. It took a challenging project for me to realize I wasnt as smart as I thought. My proud heart had deceived me into believing I didnt need Gods help.

The powerful kingdom of Edom received discipline from God for its pride. Edom was located amid mountainous terrain, making her seemingly invulnerable to enemies . Edom was also a wealthy nation, situated at the center of strategic trade routes and rich in copper, a highly valued commodity in the ancient world. It was full of good things yet also full of pride. Its citizens believed their kingdom was invincible, even as they oppressed Gods people . But God used the prophet Obadiah to tell them of His judgment.

Nations would rise up against Edom, and the once-powerful kingdom would be defenseless and humiliated . Pride deceives us into thinking we can live life on our terms, without God. It makes us feel invulnerable to authority, correction, and weakness. But God calls us to humble ourselves before Him . As we turn from our pride and choose repentance, God will guide us toward total trust in Him. By: Karen Huang

Prayer: Father, protect me from pride. Please give me a humble heart.
