Final Verdict On Authority Pet Foods
Ive found Authority formulas as mostly decent alternatives to cheaper brands of dog foods that have loads of fillers. The recipes do not contain soy, wheat, or artificial ingredients. The list of ingredients is often short, and the meat sources are premium.
However, some recipes do contain ingredients that I do not wish to see in dog food. In particular, canola and, most worrying of all, carrageenan. The few Authority pet foods without these ingredients that I have reviewed are quite excellent and can be a match for the more expensive brands.
If you can steer away from those recipes with carrageenan, I feel that your dog will be in good hands with this as part of his regular diet.
Kal Kan Complete Adult
This dog food makes the list because of questionable ingredient quality that is not nutritional and is somewhat harmful to dogs.
The primary ingredient is corn, which we just mentioned does not provide the proper nutrition your dog needs.
The second ingredient is meat and bone meal which is a dry product from the mammal tissues, including bones, exclusive of any added hair, blood, hoof, hide trimmings, horn, manure, rumen contents, and stomach.
Meat and bone meal may have a lower digestibility than most of the other meat meals.
Scientists believe that this decreased absorption may be because of the lower essential amino acid and higher ash content in the ingredient.
The meat itself can come from any mixture of cattle, pigs, goats or sheep, making classifying impossible for particular food allergens.
Although meat and bone meals are still considered meat concentrates rich in protein, a generic ingredient like this cannot be considered a quality item.
Kal Kans third ingredient is a soybean meal which a by-product or leftover of soybean oil production more often found in farm animal feed.
Although soybean meal comprises about 48% of protein, this ingredient would be estimated to have a lower biological value than meat.
Inexpensive plant-based ingredients like this can boost the total protein, an element that must be considered while judging the actual meat content of this dog food.
I think you get the point that these types of ingredients are not ideal for your furry friend.
Original Line Of Diamond Dog Food
The Diamond Pet Food Company is owned and produced by Schell & Kampeter, and comprises three product lines.
The original Diamond line of dog food lacks the desired nutritional content you should be looking for in your dogs food.
A review of several Diamond dog food products reveals the use of corn, soy and wheat ingredients.
Many of the meat-based ingredients come from unnamed sources like fish meal or meat by-products of questionable quality.
They dont use many artificial flavors and colors like other bad dog food brands on this list, so thats a plus.
Still, it would be good to avoid any brand that makes heavy use of wheat, soy and corn.

Can I Mix Special Diet Food With Regular Puppy Food
Are you considering getting your pup onto a particular type of diet for weight management, or sensitive skin? If the answer is yes, the first thing to do would be consulting your puppys vet. See if they can give you their advice about the switch and whether they think its a good idea.

Before I get on with my Authority dog food review, lets clarify a few things. The Authority brand of dog food is produced by PetSmart, one of the largest pet store chains in North America. Petsmart was founded in 1986 and has grown to include more than 1,300 retail locations.
You cant find it anywhere except on the Petsmart website, which is the exclusive distributor of the Authority dog food brand in the country.
What Is Corn Gluten Meal In My Puppys Food
Contrary to what you might expect, corn gluten meal does not unless contaminated contain any gluten at all. When corn or maize products like corn syrup are processed, corn gluten meal is one of the by-products. In your pups food, it plays at least two main roles however, they are not necessarily about nutrition.
First, corn gluten meal helps kibble to stay in shape: in a way, its a binder. Second, it does contain around 60 percent protein, so it increases the overall protein content of your pups dinner. It is essentially cheaper than meat, but of course, we prefer to see meat in a dog food instead of corn gluten meal. Most sources agree that the degree to which these corn gluten meal proteins can be absorbed by your dog is limited. In general, it is considered a filler ingredient.

Authority Chicken & Rice Formula Adult Dry Dog Food
This is their most basic food, but its also one of their best. It has 26% protein, which is about normal for most kibbles, and that amount is largely due to the chicken and chicken meal inside. Were especially fond of the chicken meal, as it includes important nutrients not found in leaner cuts of meat.
One of those nutrients is glucosamine, which is essential for joint health. Larger dogs will especially benefit from this, but conditions like hip dysplasia dont discriminate, so all animals should get as much glucosamine as possible in their diets.
Brown rice is the primary vegetable, and including it is a mixed bag. Its gentle on stomachs and filled with B vitamins, but its also calorie dense, so were leery about it being so high up on the ingredients roster.
There are other potentially problematic ingredients here too, like corn, corn gluten meal, dried egg product, and vegetable oil. All these offer quite a few empty calories while also potentially upsetting sensitive stomachs.
This formula is very similar to their basic kibble, except they add dried chicken cartilage and a few other ingredients.
The cartilage is important, as its full of glucosamine and chondroitin. Bigger pups put a lot of strain on their skeletal systems, so its important to give their joints all the support you can, and this formula certainly does that.
Does Corn Gluten Meal Contain Gluten
Corn gluten meal is a staple in many Authority formulas. For dog owners whose dogs have sensitivities to gluten, this can be concerning. But I will address that worry here.
It may sound surprising, but corn gluten meal is actually gluten-free. The stuff is 60%-70% protein, and none of the corn gluten meal is gluten. In fact, corn in its natural state does not contain gluten.
So how did corn gluten meal get its name? The story goes that the word gluten got attached to corn because one worker in a wheat gluten processing facility just started calling everything with protein in it as gluten.

Does Wellness Dog Food Come From China
