Columbia, SC Colliers | South Carolina announces that Poogans Southern Kitchen will be the newest tenant to join the Cardinal Crossing development at 4605 Forest Drive in Forest Acres. Rox Pollard and Danny Bonds of Colliers represented The Beach Company as the landlord and George Wilson of Adams & Wilson Development represented Poogans Hospitality Group as the tenant in the transaction.
The Beach Companys Cardinal Crossing is a $60 million mixed-use development on the former Cardinal Newman School site consisting of 256 luxury apartments and ±42,000 square feet of commercial space. The developments vision continues Forest Acres tradition of creating vibrant communities in which to work, live and enjoy. Poogans Southern Kitchen will be located on the Southwest corner of the development, directly adjacent to Forest Drive and across the parking lot from Bad Daddys Burger Bar. Other tenants at Cardinal Crossing include CycleBar, Club Pilates, Clean Juice, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Molto Vino, GoClear Orthodontics and Aria Nail Spa.

Its been just over a year since Nothing Bundt Cakes opened at 4619 Forest Drive in the Cardinal Crossing shopping center. Owner Kandi Bubonic and her staff will soon be celebrating the stores first birthday with three days of giveaways, benefiting customers and one local nonprofit organization.
According to Bubonic, the celebration will begin Thursday, Jan. 29, with a spin-to-win event. Anyone 18 or older can spin the wheel in-store to win free cake, prizes, retail giveaways or what Bubonic calls the most important giveaway: the chance to win free bundtlets for a year.
Fridays festivities will promote local nonprofit Epworth Childrens Home. Thats the day thats really near and dear to my heart, Bubonic said. Were going to be giving 20% of all our sales to Epworth Friday. The organization serves children in need by providing education, counseling, medical care and spiritual enrichment. This opportunity gives us the chance to really give more, and really be able to support them, she said.
The grand finale of the birthday celebration will be held Saturday. We figure whats the best way to celebrate a birthday, but to give everybody a birthday cake, said Bubonic. Everyone who comes in the store will receive a free confetti bundtlet with purchase.

A sweet new addition has just been added to Forest Acres. Nothing Bundt Cakes officially opened its doors to anxious customers Saturday, in the developing Cardinal Crossing shopping center .
Owner Kandi Bubonic and her family moved from Texas to open her second Nothing Bundt Cakes in the Midlands. Bubonic familiarized herself with the product for eight years while working as a general manager for one of the franchises training bakeries in Dallas. Then, she opened her first store in Arlington, TX.
When asked if it was scary to open a second store of he own, she laughed. The scariest thing was moving across the country with a baby and a toddler, she said. But I have family here and I wanted to be closer to them while raising my kids.
Nothing Bundt Cakes specializes in four different bundt cake sizes, ranging from full-size for sharing, to bite-size bundtinis that can be purchased by the dozen. Nine different flavors are offered including pecan praline, white chocolate raspberry, chocolate chocolate chip, and lemon. An additional seasonal flavor is also on the menu. According to Bubonic, their cakes are always moist and soft, accompanied by a butter cream cheese frosting on top.

The idea to open a bakery came about in spring 2018 when Alice Pax, who grew up in Montgomery County and went to the University of Maryland, visited a friend in Charleston, South Carolina. She asked her friend what stores were doing well in South Carolina that werent as common in Maryland, and thats how she learned about Nothing Bundt Cakes.
When I came back home, Bryan and I went to the Nothing Bundt Cakes in Gaithersburg. We tried the cake, and we loved it and the whole feel of the bakery, Alice Pax said.
In August 2018, the couple flew to Dallas to sign the franchise agreement, and after two years of waiting for a location, the store is set to open by Labor Day. While the store will open in late August or early September, Alice Pax said the stores grand opening will be in late September.
The opening will be a rare one in the area during the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused challenges for the food service industry. More than a dozen restaurants in the Baltimore area have permanently closed, including Rams Head Tavern in Savage and Clydes of Columbia. Bryan Pax, however, said he believes Nothing Bundt Cakes is set up for success, even during the pandemic.
It was scary proceeding forward, Im not going to sugarcoat that, he said. But we know people are still spending money. It is a pick-up place and not a sit-down restaurant, and other Nothing Bundt Cakes locations in the area are doing quite well.
