Wrap the cooled loaf of banana bread in plastic wrap and store on the counter for up to four days. The banana bread will get moister as the days go on. You can store banana bread in the refrigerator if you need it to last longer, but I prefer the counter method.

How To Ripen Bananas For Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Dont have ripe bananas on hand? There are a few ways you can speed up the ripening process to make your bananas perfect for banana bread!

  • The night before, break apart your bananas and place them in a brown paper bag. It blocks just enough oxygen which allows the bananas to release a chemical called ethylene. This is what speeds up the ripening process.
  • Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes at 300F. Theyre ready when theyve turned COMPLETELY brown. Let them cool before using.
  • If youre in a pinch, you can microwave your bananas. Pierce the banana with a fork a few times and microwave it for 30 seconds 1 minute.
  • Lastly, your best bet to find already ripe bananas is to look for single bananas at the grocery store. They usually keep a pile at the bottom of the banana display.
  • And there you have it! Ripe bananas that are going to make your chocolate chip banana bread extra delicious.

If you already have frozen ripe bananas, you can also use those. Just leave them out for about 30 minutes to 1 hour in order to thaw before using.

What You Need To Make This Recipe

Bananas you have to use overripe bananas for this to work. They should have brown and black spots all over and be soft so they are really easy to mash. Overripe bananas are extra sweet and soft making them perfect for baking with.

Vanilla use vanilla extract for a real vanilla taste and stay away from vanilla essence which is synthetic.

Butter softened butter is a must so bring it out of the fridge in advance. Its creamed together with the sugar and the only way to do that is by using softened, room-temperature butter.

Sugar I use granulated sugar for this but brown sugar will also work.

Chocolate chips I love to use semi-sweet chocolate chips because banana bread is already really sweet. If you want you can use bittersweet chocolate which will also be delicious or even milk chocolate if you dont mind the extra sweetness.

Salt even in sweet recipes salt is an important ingredient, you dont need much at all but it really enhances the flavors!

Why Is This The Best Banana Bread

Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

Let me explain why this is the last banana bread recipe youll ever need. First off, its outrageously moist . This recipe has butter as well as sour cream, which not only make it unbelievably soft, they also give great flavor, as opposed to a lot of banana bread recipes that are made with oil. Of course I use walnuts in this recipe, that you can omit if you must, but I urge you not to, at least the first time you make this recipe.

BUT the real secret to this recipe on supreme moistness and banana flavor iswait for itSLICED BANANAS. You add some mashed and some thinly sliced. Is your mind blown yet?

Adding the sliced bananas into the bread leaves little pockets of banana that you wouldnt normally have when its mashed. Not enough that it is mushy, that wouldnt be good just the exact perfect thing your banana bread has been missing all along. Im telling you, this is legit.

    An Easy Quick Bread Recipe

Im sharing this delicious recipe for one of my all-time favorite quick breads. This incredibly moist classic banana bread recipe loaded with chocolate chips is a family favorite around here. Its made without yeast, so not only does it come together quickly, but its an easy starter recipe for beginner bakers and kids!

I dont know about you all but I crave warm banana bread sometimes, especially when theres a bit of melting butter on it! So I like to make two batches and freeze one that I can just take out and thaw later on. Its the best for last-minute company as it works for breakfast, a snack, and dessert! The overripe bananas and the chocolate chips make this a sweet quick bread perfect on its own, but by all means, slather it with your favorite spreads.

Why Does My Banana Bread Fall In The Middle

If you find that your banana bread sinks in the middle as it cools, its likely because the bread was not completely cooked through. Banana bread forms a nice, dark crust on the outside that makes the loaf look done even if the inside is still slightly raw. Before removing the bread from the oven, insert a toothpick deep into the very center of the loaf. If it comes out with any wet batter on it, return the bread to the oven to finish baking.

A Note On Salt And Oven Temperature

It is important to note the type of salt that is called for in a recipe. I use Diamond Crystal salt throughout my recipes if you use a different sort of kosher salt or regular table salt you will need to adjust accordingly as some salt is saltier than others. Mortons salt is twice as salty, so you will need half the quantity. Same goes for a regular table salt. I am working to get gram measurements throughout my recipes for salt but still getting there.

All oven temperatures are conventional unless otherwise stated. If you are baking on fan / convection, you will need to adjust the temperature. An oven thermometer is a great investment to ensure that your oven is the correct temperature.

How To Keep Chocolate Chips From Sinking In Banana Bread

I havent had a problem with the chocolate chips sinking in this thick batter however, there are a couple of good ways to avoid that issue. First, I recommend using miniature chocolate chips, which disperse evenly throughout the bread and arent as heavy . Next, if you are using the larger standard-size chocolate chips, you might want to lightly toss them with a small amount of flour before stirring them into the batter. This method helps the chocolate chips stay suspended in the bread.

This recipes comes together easily. Be sure to follow the recipe as specified, including using both granulated sugar AND brown sugar. The brown sugar really enhances the flavor of the bread. Also ensure that your eggs are at room temperature and your butter is softened.

    • Step 1: Mash the bananas. Be sure to use overripe bananas. The bananas should be mostly brown to yield the best flavor. Mash until smooth. Do not leave chunks of bananas.
    • Step 2: Prepare the pan. Grease a 9×5 metal loaf pan and set aside. Use butter or a nonstick cooking spray to grease the sides.
    • Step 3: Make the batter. Cream together the butter and sugars. Then add the eggs, mashed bananas and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Fold until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
    • Step 4: Add the chocolate chips. Gently fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips until combined. After pouring the batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle the remaining 1/4 chips on top.
    • Step 5: Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the bread is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

How To Keep Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Moist

There are a few keys to keeping banana bread moist and tender:

    • The correct ratio of fat and bananas to flour is key, since the fat and bananas add moisture to the batter. Too much fat or bananas, however, and the bread will be gummy and mushy.
    • Do not over-mix the batter. Stir just until the ingredients are combined and you don’t see any dry pockets of flour, then stop. A few lumps in the batter is normal. Overmixing the batter will activate the gluten in the flour, yielding a tough, dry bread.
    • Do not overbake the bread or it will become dry. My loaves are typically done by the 55-minute mark, so check it early.
