Beef And Vegetable Pie

I recreated Lorne Armstrong’s chicken pie, but is it a pie or a cobbler?

Recipe may contain gluten, milk, fish, shellfish and soy.

The kids will love these tasty mince pies and you will love the nutritious vegetables concealed inside.

  • 2/3 cup Massel beef stock
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large sheet frozen ready-rolled shortcrust pastry, partially thawed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 sheet frozen ready-rolled puff pastry, partially thawed
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
  • Step 1 Combine worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce and stock in a jug. Set aside. Heat oil in a large, non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add onion. Cook, stirring, for 3 to 4 minutes or until tender. Increase heat to medium-high. Add mince. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until browned. Add carrot, zucchini and peas. Stir to combine. Add flour. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  • Step 3 Preheat oven and a baking tray to 210°C. Lightly grease a 4cm-deep, 20cm pie dish. Line base and sides with shortcrust pastry. Spoon cold mince mixture into pastry case. Brush pie edges lightly with egg. Place puff pastry sheet filling to cover. Trim excess pastry and pinch edges together to seal. Brush pie top with egg. Using a sharp knife, make 2 small cuts in pie top.

How To Make It

This easy Shepherds Pie comes together pretty easily. And if you want to make it even faster, you could use store bought mashed potatoes or leftover mashed potatoes.

BUT, if you do make the potatoes for this recipe from scratch, you can begin making them while youre prepping the base of your Shepherds Pie.

Brown the ground beef in a skillet and then drain off the fat. Add the vegetables to the skillet and cook until softened.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook until darkened. Add the thyme and cornstarch, continuing to cook for 2 minutes.

Add the stock, peas, corn and garlic powder. Allow to cook until slightly thickened and transfer to a baking dish.

Top with the mashed potatoes in an even layer and sprinkle with cheese. Bake until bubbling and golden brown.

What makes this recipe so great is you can make it in advance and then just pop it in the oven when youre ready to bake!

To FREEZE your Shepherds Pie, allow the casserole to come to room temperature and then wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Wrap again with foil and freeze for up to 3 months.

To reheat Shepherds Pie, allow the casserole to thaw and then bake according to recipe instructions.

How Do You Clean A Pie Maker

Because pie makers have a non-stick coating, they are pretty easy to clean. Similar to a toastie maker, if you wipe the surface while it’s still hot, most melted cheese or overflow should wipe away.

For any cooked on or burnt bits that don’t come off as easily, moisten a non-scratch scourer, press it onto the surface and leave for a minute or two to help loosen the cooked on bits, then gently scrub them off.

Make sure that the pie maker is completely clean and dry before closing and putting away. This will help prolong the life of the pie maker, especially the non-stick coating.

Savory Shepherd’s Meat & Potato Pie

Bremer Shepherd

  • red bell pepper, small, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
  • bay leaf, dried or 2 fresh
  • 1/2 tsp
  • Peel the potatoes and quarter them. Put them into a pot of cold water and bring to a boil, lower heat and cook until tender.
  • In a large bowl, mash the potatoes with the butter and milk add the salt, pepper, nutmeg to taste then the egg yolks and half of the cheese, mix and set aside until needed.
  • Brown the beef.Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a small pan add butter, and the onion and bell pepper and caramelize them.
  • Combine the caramelized vegetables with the meat and add the beef broth and bay leaf bringing to a boil, and boil until there is almost no liquid left.
  • When ready, remove from heat, take out the bay leaves, and add the salt, pepper, oregano, red pepper flakes and paprika, making sure to mix well.
  • In a greased casserole pan, layer in half the potato mixture, then all of the meat mixture, then add the sliced eggs and top with the rest of the potatoes. Don’t spead the potatoes out flat, you want some ridges. Sprinkle on the parmesan cheese and bake in a 375 oven for 30 minutes.

    But with this Chunky Beef and Mushroom Pie, with just one bite, you know its a step up from the usual pie. You may not be able to put your finger on it, but you know theres something different about it just better.

    This is the secret ingredient Dried Porcini Mushrooms. Just a tiny amount adds a punch of savouriness and earthiness in posh foodie language, it adds umami.

    Gourmet ingredient? Yes. But:

    How To Make Lebanese Meat Pies

  • Preheat oven to 350°F degrees.
  • In a food processor add parsley and onion and pulse until its finely chopped.
  • Next add the ground beef to the food processor bowl and pulse a few times to mix with the parsley and onions. You dont want to over process the meat as it might make it tough.
  • Spoon the meat mixture into a mixing bowl along with the spices and tomato paste.
  • Mix well with your hands.
  • Take some of the meat mixture and spread over naan bread using your hands to smooth and even it out.
  • Spray baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Also spray the outer crust with the cooking spray and place the meat pies on the baking tray.
  • Place in the oven for 10 minutes or until meat is brown and cooked.
  • And that is all there is to it. It is really tasty Im telling you. There is something about both the tomato paste and cinnamon that give the meat a bit of sweetness and compliments the onion and parsley.

    Its a bit like kofta spread out on chewy naan bread and its a winning combination.

In this review, were taking a pretty high-level look at the food products you could reasonably include within the frozen pies category, including both sweet and savoury meals, as well as some of the near neighbours to your traditional frozen meat pies, such as cottage pie and shepherds pie. Its all yummy to us!

    Respondents were asked to rate frozen pie brands on their taste & quality of ingredients, meal variety, ease of preparation, value for money, and overall satisfaction. So, which brand offers the frozen pies Aussies want to stick a fork in?

    McCain came in hot in this years frozen pie review, rating best across the board as the only brand that achieved five stars in any category!
