Grand Traverse Pie Offering Free Slices On National Pie Day
Slices of Michigan fruit pie – Apple Crumb or Cherry Crumb – can be had with any purchase.
National Pie Day is Jan. 23.
To celebrate, Grand Traverse Pie Company will again be offering a free slice of pie with any purchase at any of its locations scattered across the state on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Slices of Michigan fruit pie – Apple Crumb or Cherry Crumb – can be had with any purchase. That includes coffee, salads, sandwiches, pot pies, pasties and quiche. You can even order a slice of pie and get another one free.
“Pie is part of America’s desire for comfort food. Not just pie that meets every sweet tooth’s desire, but also savory beef and chicken pot pies, pasties, and quiche serve up comfort all year long too,” Mike Busley, co-Founder of GT Pie, said in a statement.
“We’re honored to serve a bit of comfort each and every day through all sorts of pie. Any way you slice it, pie is America’s comfort food.”
Grand Traverse Pie has locations in Ann Arbor, Brighton, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Midland, Norton Shores, Okemos, Plymouth, Portage, Rochester Hills, Terre Haute , Traverse City, and Troy.

Review Of Grand Traverse Pie Company
I am a cherry pie connoisseur and have spent a good part of my life in the Traverse City area I have to say the Grand Traverse Pies have gone downhill in the last few years. They have become very average…. and I am speaking for their cherry pies. I don’t know what they have done to them? And a pie is close to $30.00, which seems kind of high to me unless they are really good. Anyway in the summer when you can go out and pick your own cherries and make a pie an hour after picking them… the bar is high. They do have very good iced sugar cookies!

I stopped in for a quick dinner and got a southwest wrap and a piece of no sugar added cherry pie as they didn’t have any sugar free available. I was disappointed in the entire meal. The wrap was overly packed with lettuce and really messy. It was soggy and wouldn’t stay together. They are known for their pies but I would not recommend the no sugar added ones. I might come back for a sugar free pie but that would be about it.
We stopped here for breakfast today and was pleasantly surprised. We both had quiche â â I had the Broccoli cheddar and my husband had the spinach, mushroom and cheese. The portion was large and came with pumpkin loaf. Delicious!Also took home a chocolate Baileys cream pie …!

Grand Traverse Pie Co Closes Less Than A Year After Opening In Downtown Ann Arbor
Grand Traverse Pie Company franchisee Dave Ziegler closed his East Liberty Street location after opening in May 2012.

It just turns out that our menu did not seem to be the right fit for downtown Ann Arbor, Ziegler said.
The restaurant at 505 E. Liberty St. closed on Saturday less than a year after opening.
It was a business decision to get out of it before we got in trouble, Ziegler said.
Ziegler and his wife, Beth, own the Grand Traverse Pie Co. restaurant at 291 N. Zeeb Road. In May 2012, the couple opened the 3,185-square-foot restaurant in the on East Liberty Street.
Ziegler said business is strong at his Zeeb Road location, but downtown Ann Arbor diners just didnt catch on to the restaurants fast-casual menu. He said the diverse dining scene downtown creates a lot of competition for restaurant owners.
Were doing really well , he said. Out of all the Grand Traverse Pie Company locations, Zeeb is usually one or two in all categories in sales. For some reason, our menu just didnt seem to attract enough people in downtown Ann Arbor.
He added: We just appreciate the guests that we were able to serve there, and we feel bad that were not able to stay there.
Ziegler is in the process of vacating the East Liberty Street space. Representatives with landlord McKinley Inc. said there are no immediate plans to announce regarding the space.
