Were pretty obsessed with the pan-baked deep-dish Detroit-style pizza at Square Pie Guys. The dough on these crave-worthy pizzas is somehow crispy, crunchy, and chewy, and when it comes to toppings, you can choose from more playful options like a buffalo chicken pie, a vegan carbonara, and more. We will say though: Our favorite is the classic pepperoni. Youre also going to want to order the house Szechuan dry-fried wings and, even though youre really at Square Pie Guys for the pizza, its important to us that you know that the burger is not to be overlooked. FYI: All of the pies can be made with gluten-free dough and/or vegan cheese.How to enjoy: The SF location is only open for pickup and delivery. If you want to dine outdoors, check out the Oakland location.

COVID-19 Update: Detroit style pizza-no place to eat-sketchy area of Mission-had to sit on the steps across the street
This place has been on the SF Chronicle’s best pizza list and I was able to try it on a weekend. This place is located in a sketchy area on Mission Street – with no indoor dining and no place on the sidewalk for outdoor…dining and us driving from the East Bay, enjoying the meal was challenging. We ended up sitting on the steps across the street of some government building – not so great. We ordered the Mean Green pizza and it was very good. Nice crunch on the sides and cooked perfectly. We asked for utensils to cut the pizza as it was kinda gooey and they said they did not provide utensils. If you are driving up and picking up pizza and taking it straight home, that would work. I would probably not return even if the pizza was good – bad area of town to have to eat on the street.More

Square Pie Guys To Open Third Location Their Biggest Yet At Ghirardelli Square
Three years after launching as a pop-up in San Francisco and then opening their first location in SoMa, Square Pie Guys have inked a lease at Ghirardelli Square for what will be their flagship location.
Owners Danny Stoller and Marc Schechter tell Eater this week that they’ve snagged a large and bright new space in the Ghirardelli Square complex, at 851 Beach Street the former Pub at Ghirardelli Square, downstairs from McCormick & Kuleto’s. And the streetside location, overlooking the waterfront, will allow for an outdoor parklet as well.
Stoller tells Eater that they were drawn to Ghirardelli Square because it’s “one of many but not that many open outdoor gathering places in the city.” And certainly, when the tourist traffic comes back, that foot traffic can’t hurt and there really isn’t any good pizza at the Wharf, so no competition there.
The new location opening date TBA will apparently allow for a full bar as well, along with beer and wine.
Square Pie Guys opened in 2019 at 1077 Mission Street in SoMa, and clearly did a brisk delivery business during the comfort-food-obsessed days of the early pandemic. Their crispy-edged, Detroit-style pies and delicious sauces and toppings have been holding their own against some other recent, square-pie competition from Sunset Squares/SSP Beer Hall, and Cellarmaker House of Pizza.
