Others Will See How You Vote

The chickenpotpie tasted like thanksgiving dinner. The beef and mushroom was too salty. We were really looking forward to eating here and it was underwhelming. Potpie was good, not great. Horrible service. We were herded in and out of the restaurant under 30 minutes. We were here on break and the waitress interrogated us about our ID’s. To piggy back off of another post, if your restaurant name is Potpie, it should be an excellent dish.

Operations May Be Disrupted Due To Covid

Its nearly impossible to dine at a restaurant named PotPie and not try its namesake. The temptation is well deserved as these glorious pots of beef, mushrooms and gravy are nearly the size of a football and topped with a light and flaky crust. The dining room is small and intimate, and its easy to enjoy the show as other diners receive their food. Dont go in a hurry, as the potpies are made from scratch and take some time. But the food is worth the wait and gives you an opportunity to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine before the food arrives. The menu changes frequently, but the potpies are a mainstay. Its easy to indulge when the bread basket arrives filled with soft, French bread ideal for dipping into the beef or chicken potpie gravy. Other highlights include pan-seared scallops, a New York Strip steak and pan-roasted chicken. Entrées dont include soup or salad, so we suggest opting for an appetizer, too, such as the goat cheese salad, spinach and Brie tart, and steamed mussels. For dessert, go for the not-too-sweet pear tart.

Aaron thinks of PotPie as his home, quite literally. He has known Williams since middle school, and when a death in the family brought him back home to Kansas City in 2003, he helped Williams sand the bar as PotPie was preparing to open its doors. Williams then helped get him an interview at Zin.

Williams opened PotPie in 2003 with his business partner and now-wife Sarah Williams, who is still known to wait tables a few nights each week at PotPie. The couple is so intertwined with the restaurant that, to this day, new owner Victor Swerdlove still quotes them as if they were still in the building calling the shots.

I didnt make any kind of announcement when I decided to buy this place because I didnt see the point. Nothing was going to change on my watch we were still going to be dedicated to providing excellent service, great food and drink and to continue to enjoy working together as a team, says Swerdlove. John and Sarah are still around if we need them we are not doing this alone by a long shot.

Swerdlove worked for the couple at PotPie almost from day one. In 2017, he quietly purchased the restaurant with a promise to the Williams and the staff that they would continue to take it easy, the tagline of the restaurant that John added to the original PotPie logo.
