How To Make Perfect Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Every Time | Delish Insanely Easy

There is no way you can go wrong when you make up this simple, family favorite, Chocolate Chip Banana Bread- its a must have in this house! My kids love to help make it too, by smashing the bananas and dumping in more chocolate chips than the recipe calls for . But of course our favorite part is eating this delicious homemade bread. The warm, inviting smell of banana and chocolate brings everyone to the kitchen!

Banana Bread With Streusel Topping

I topped my chocolate chip banana bread with a quick chocolate streusel topping, which is super easy to make. You basically add all the ingredients to a bowl – flour, raw sugar, brown sugar, cocoa, and a wee bit of salt, then add melted butter and stir until clumpy.

The streusel adds an amazing chocolate topping to the banana bread which really compliments the chocolate chips. It may look like it is a lot when you add it to the pan – that’s because it kind of is a lot, but the thick streusel layer is just so, so good. Trust me on this one.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

This isnt just regular banana bread. Its chocolate chip banana bread! This recipe is the best because it creates a thick and smooth batter with buttermilk. Yep, creamy buttermilk is what takes this recipe to the next level! This means that in every single bite, you will taste delicious melted chocolate, a hint of banana flavor, and moist and delicious bread.

This chocolate chip banana bread makes a great after-school snack for kids, and my kids LOVE it! Plus, it also freezes well! So I will usually make a few batches. One or two to eat immediately and then another that I will freeze for later. Eat this up at breakfast, brunch, or a late-night snack. Its delicious anytime and anywhere. GIve it a try. Its going to become a family favorite!

Tip: How To Quickly Ripen Bananas

If youre sitting there with unripe bananas and absolutely need to bake banana bread, there are a couple of tricks for speeding up the ripening process:

  • Add to a paper bag. If you can wait a day or two, throw the bananas into a brown paper bag. Bananas release ethylene . If you can place the bag in a warmer area of your home, the process will go even quicker.
  • Bake them. For a really quick option, you can bake bananas in their peel to ripen them. This trick works best when the bananas arent completely green and instead are already starting to ripen. To do it, line unpeeled bananas on a baking sheet and bake in a 300 degree F oven until they look shiny and black . Dont worry if some banana or juices leak out while they bake. While this is a nice tip, I do prefer the taste of naturally ripened bananas to the oven-baked option.

Its the bananas that make banana bread so moist, sweet, and flavorful. When youre ready with your bananas, the rest of the recipe comes together quickly.

How To Make Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Ultra

Preheat the oven to 350°F .

Lightly grease a nonstick loaf pan, or line a regular metal loaf pan with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. I recommend using a whisk instead of a spoon to distribute the ingredients more evenly.

In a blender*, combine peeled overripe bananas, coconut milk solids**, raw sugar*** , apple cider vinegar, and vanilla extract. Blend until combined.

Pour the blended banana mixture into another large bowl.

Add 3/4 cup of the dairy free chocolate chips and mix them until theyre fully covered in liquid.

Using a silicone spatula, fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until there are no clumps of flour left.

Be careful not to overmix the banana bread batter otherwise too much gluten may develop, which will create a tough texture in your vegan banana chocolate chip bread.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and even out with a spatula. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips on top, and press in lightly.

Bake the banana bread for 55-60 min, rotating the pan 180° halfway through.

The bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the thickest part of the loaf comes out dry.

Cool your vegan chocolate chip banana bread for at least 15 minutes before taking it out of the loaf pan .

Place on a cooling rack for another 10-15 min until cool enough to handle. Enjoy!

How To Make Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins:

This recipe can also be made into chocolate chip banana bread muffins. If you love banana bread in bite-size form, you will love these chocolate chip banana muffins. This recipe will make 12 large muffins or 18 small to medium muffins. I usually come out with 12 muffins. Since they are smaller, you will bake them for less time. Set the timer for 15 minutes and keep checking. The muffins are done when a toothpick comes out clean.

Another tip is to use mini chocolate chips. If you only have regular sized chocolate chips, they will work brilliantly as well. I just like the even distribution of chocolate flavor that mini chocolate chips bring to this chocolate chip banana bread. You can set aside ¼ cup of mini chocolate chips to sprinkle on the top of the bread. You will have everyone fighting for the tops of the bread after they see that much chocolate! Bring on the chocolate for breakfast.

I used a 8.5 x 4.5 x 2.75 inch loaf pan. This USA pan is my favorite loaf pan because it creates such perfectly baked bread.

How Many Cups Is 1 Mashed Banana

This can be tricky! If a recipe calls for 3 bananas, how much is that? We all know that measurements are important in baking, so the difference between a very small banana and a very large banana can be significant when baking a loaf of banana bread.

My recipe calls for 1 ½ cups of mashed banana. One large banana yields about ½ cup mashed, so I used 3 large bananas for a total of about 1 ½ cups. If you’re working with small bananas, you’ll need at least 4 . Measuring is always the safest way to make sure that your banana bread turns out perfectly moist, sweet, and delicious!

The Best Banana Bread Recipe With Chocolate Chips

    Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread has everything we love about classic banana bread with the addition of two very important ingredients: Greek yogurt and chocolate chips.

The yogurt makes this banana bread moist, while the chocolate chips do what they do best and add lots of rich chocolatey goodness! A slice of this banana bread, while still warm, is pure bliss.

The Secret To Super Moist Banana Bread

The secret to getting moist chocolate chip banana bread is really just a couple simple ingredients. The main two being melted butter and Greek yogurt.

Using melted butter, as opposed to room temperature, helps to soaks up all the flour which gives you that smooth texture. The Greek yogurt adds even MORE moisture while still providing structure. Its my secret ingredient in so many of my dessert recipes.

Another reason why Greek yogurt works so well here is because its flavor. Greek yogurt is slightly sour which helps to balance out the sweetness of the bananas, chocolate, and sugar.

Its also very thick and contains less water than regular yogurt. This is the reason why I love baking with it so much, it provides tons of moisture without thinning the batter too much.

But if you dont have Greek yogurt available near you, sour cream will also do the trick.

We cant forget about the bananas. You have to add just enough to get that strong flavor but too much can turn your banana bread into banana pudding . Getting the perfect balance of flour, butter, yogurt and banana is the key to getting deliciously moist chocolate chip banana bread.

    Only Use The Ripest Bananas

One of the most important requirements for making delicious banana bread is that your bananas are ripe. Bananas appear ripe when their yellow skins begin to develop freckles and become too soft for pleasurable snacking. If you can, let the bananas ripen until their skins are dark brown and falling apart as your peel them, guaranteeing a strongly, banana-flavored and richer tasting bread.

When it comes to mashing the banana, I personally prefer to leave some banana chunks in my bread. However, if you prefer a completely smooth, chunk-free banana bread, turn your mixer up a bit higher at then end.

How To Cook Banana Bread In The Middle

When I first started making banana bread, I struggled with getting the center completely done without getting the outside too brown. The struggle is real. The solution I found that works like a charm is to cover the banana bread with aluminum foil halfway through the baking time. This ensures the middle gets cooked through without the edges becoming too dark.

The Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

I often refer to this recipe as Sunday banana bread, meaning, its the perfect day to bake up a loaf or two of this ultra-moist treat to enjoy throughout the week. Yes, its simple enough to make during the week, even when schedules are tighter and downtime diminished, but Ive always loved baking on a Sunday afternoon.

Weekends provide an abundance of circumstances that allow me, and in some cases compel me, to enjoy and prepare good food. These are the days to linger over waffles with the kids , serve racks of messy ribs to friends, or have everyone over for a big Sunday roast.

Regardless of the day of the week you decide to make this, I know youre going to love every slice. Its a winner.

How To Store Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Store leftovers of this vegan chocolate banana bread on countertop tightly wrapped in plastic wrap, or in an airtight container, for 3-4 days at room temperature.

To freeze vegan banana bread, wait till the bread is completely cool. Cut the loaf into individual slices, then wrap each slice in aluminum foil .

Put the slices into a freezer bag, and squeeze out as much air as possible. Zip up the bag. Store sliced banana bread in the freezer for 2-3 months.

To defrost a slice of banana bread, take it out of the aluminum foil, and let rest on the countertop until defrosted, 30-60 minutes.

    How To Reheat Banana Bread

    Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
  • If you have frozen the bread, then like I said above, let the bread thaw completely first. Next preheat your oven to 350°F, and wrap the loaf in foil. Heat it for 10-15 minutes and it will be as good as new!
  • You can also toast slices of leftover banana bread, which is a great way to have a warm individual slice without reheating the whole loaf!
  • And yes, certainly you can reheat a slice of banana bread in the microwave, although its never the recommended method because it doesnt heat evenly. BUT, in a pinch heat a slice for 10-12 seconds and it will be good to go!

Baking Tips For Moist Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Follow the recipe above and these tips below to make the best banana bread, every time!

How to keep chocolate chip banana bread moistGreek yogurt has an acidic nature that makes baked goods light and moist.

How to cook chocolate chip banana bread all the way throughWith the excess moisture from ripe bananas and Greek yogurt, banana bread needs to be baked for 50 minutes to an hour. If the top of the banana bread is beginning to brown too quickly, cover the surface with a piece of tin foil and continue to bake.

Some ovens run hotter than others, so I highly advise checking the loaf with a long wooden skewer or knife near the 50-minute mark. If it comes out clean, remove it from the oven, but if not, youll need another 8 to 10 minutes.

Start with room temperature ingredientsMake sure to have all ingredients at room temperature, including eggs, butter, and yogurt. I often freeze leftover bananas for smoothies and baking, so make sure those are defrosted and room temp too.
