How To Make Low Calorie Bread

Add water to a large bowl and heat in microwave for 30 seconds. Add instant dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Mix with fork then add flour and salt.

Knead the bread dough by hand. Wrap it and microwave at 200 W for 40 seconds. Knead the dough again and microwave for 10 minutes at the dough rising setting.

Preheat the oven to 230 C. Make 4 equal balls with the dough and place them on a baking tray. Bake for 10 minutes on bottom rack.

Remove the tray from the oven. Let the bread cool before serving.

Sara Lees white sandwich bread contains 29 grams of carbohydrates per slice, 7 of which come from dietary fiber. Not all carbohydrates cause your blood sugar levels to rise, though only those that contain starches and sugars will do so. Sara Lees white sandwich bread has very little in the form of sugars just 2 grams per slice but it does have 12 grams of starch. Starches are long chains of sugar molecules that, when digested by your body, are broken down into their component sugars and absorbed into your bloodstream. The amount of carbohydrates you should eat each day depends on your diet plan. The Atkins low-carbohydrate diet recommends starting with a daily carb intake of 20 grams and then increasing that amount every week until weight loss slows or stops. The bread is packaged with the Sara Lee label, and is sold at Wal-Mart. Its called Delightful with a yellow/orange label. It only has 60 calories per slice, but I cant find any information on whether it contains sugar.

Grilled cheese sandwiches, the ultimate comfort food, has been avoided by dieters for decades. Generally, a GREAT grilled cheese sandwich might have 400 calories or more, and lots of fat to make it extra tasty.

  • And finally, instead of using butter to spread on your bread and put on the skillet, I use butter flavored cooking spray. If you used 1 teaspoon of butter on each slice of bread, thats another 70 calories saved!

Total calories saved = 270 calories!

How To Make Whole Wheat Bread:

In a Stand Mixer of Mixing bowl: Add 4.5 cups wheat flour and yeast to the bowl and stir to combine. Add warm water and mix. Cover and allow to rest for 15 minutes.

Add: Add vital wheat gluten, salt, melted butter, honey, Greek yogurt and mix well.

Knead: Add 1 ½ cups of flour and mix. Mix well and watch the dough it should begin to pull away from the sides of the bowl. If needed, add more flour, a little at a time, until it does. Knead the dough with your stand mixer for 5 minutes . The dough should be smooth and elastic, but still slightly sticky when touched.

Shape: Spray bread pans* with non-stick cooking spray and line the bottom of the pans with parchment or wax paper. Spray your clean counter and hands with cooking spray. Turn the dough out onto the counter and divide it into two equal pieces. Press each portion into a rectangle about 9 inches on the long side. Roll them into logs and place in prepared pans.

Rise: Spray plastic wrap with non-stick cook spray and gently cover the pans. Allow the bread to rise for about an hour, or until the dough is rounded over the tops of the pans. *See notes for quick rise trick.

Bake: Place both bread pans on the middle rack of your cold oven. Turn the oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 30-38 minutes, until the tops are golden. Remove from oven and smooth a stick of cold butter over the tops of the hot bread. Remove bread onto a wire cooling rack to cool completely.

How To Make Whole Grain Bread

Combine warm water, yeast, salt, flaxseed meal, flours, and maple syrup in a large bowl and stir until well combined. Add flour and knead in the bowl with your hands until the dough is no longer sticking to the sides of bowl.

Lightly grease the bowl with oil or nonstick spray. Place the dough in the bowl, cover and let rise at room temperature for at least 2 hours.

Create a hole in the dough with finger and pour oats and sunflower seeds. Knead the dough about 20 turns on a work surface and form a loaf shape.

Put the dough to a greased loaf pan and sift a light coating of flour. Cover and let rest for 45-60 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450F. Put a cast iron pan on the lowest rack and pour 1 cup hot water.

Once the oven is preheated, slash the dough 2 to 3 times with a knife making ½ inch cuts and place it on the middle rack of the oven.

Bake for 25-35 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven. Let it rest for few minutes in pan. Remove from pan and let the bread cool completely before slicing.

The reason its only 45 calories per slice is that it has food grade cellulose in it. This is finely powdered wood pulp, so indigestible that it passes through and doesnt contribute to the calorie count. Good luck!
