Right in downtown so flooded with state employees. About a block from the Capital. Metered parking and parking ramps.More

I called and ordered a few pies ahead of time. They were fresh out of the oven when I arrived. The pies we got were $18 each which seems pricey but they are amazing. We got a couple cherry pies and an apple caramel pecan…pie. You wont be disappointed!More

Thank you for taking the time to leave a 5 star review. So happy to hear that you enjoyed our pies!

We live in the area and have been to 5 or 6 different locations. All have a high standard of cleanliness and excellent food. The Coconut Cream Pie is the standard by which all other Coconut Pies are judged! Unfortunately this particular location gets a…FAIL. We normally eat at the WEST Front Street location but have twice tried this location, once was earlier this summer and again this Halloween. The Coconut Cream Pie was substandard. Mealy and not as flavorful. Really a huge disappointment when compared to the normal top quality we receive at the other location. We did not post a negative review the first time but now that we have had two in a row…….. Such a bummer. Still gets a two for cleanliness and friendly, knowledgable staff.More

Grand Traverse Pie Company’s Cherry Crumb pie.Grand Traverse Pie Company

TRAVERSE CITY, MI National Pie Day falls on a Sunday this year, so some Grand Traverse Pie Company locations are celebrating a day early.

The Michigan-based company announced that its two Traverse City locations and the Grand Rapids shop will be offering a free slice of pie, either Apple Crumb or Cherry Crumb, with any purchase on Saturday, Jan. 22.

All other locations will celebrate on National Pie Day, Sunday, Jan. 23, with the same offer.

National Pie Day is an unofficial pie holiday created simply to celebrate the enjoyment of eating pie. As part of the American heritage, this day is a perfect opportunity to pass on the comforts of pie and celebrate one of Americas favorite foods, the company said.

Pie is part of Americas desire for comfort food. Not just pie that meets every sweet tooths desire, but also chicken pot pies along with quiche are served up for comfort all year long too, said Mike Busley, Co-Founder of Grand Traverse Pie Company. Were honored to serve a bit of comfort each and every day through all sorts of pie. Any way you slice it, pie is Americas comfort food.

This years free pie slices are made with Montmorency Cherries and Northern Spy Apples grown in Northern Michigan and processed fresh from the farm.

Grand Traverse Pie Company has two locations in Traverse City on Front Street and Park Street.

Pound Cherry Pie World Record Attempt In Traverse City A Herculean Task

This Charlevoix roadside attraction of the world’s largest cherry pie pan and oven from 1976 is at 6591 S. US Hwy 31.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Northern Michigan was once home to the worlds largest cherry pie. Twice. Now, people and businesses across Traverse City are teaming up to bring the world record back home by creating a pie so big, the record may never be broken again.

Traverse City natives Garret and Dakota Porter, who started ActionGlow as teens, a company which puts LEDs on snowboards and other sporting equipment, have taken it upon themselves to organize the herculean task of attempting to bake a mammoth 50,000 pound cherry pie.

The one thing they say they need most now is funding. Here is their GoFundMe Page.

Our biggest pain point is fundraising because theres just certain things that cant be donated, Garret Porter told MLive. One example, the price of the steel alone to create the pie tin is upwards of $35,000. While Jacklin Steel is donating its time and resources for fabricating the tin and cutting all the steel and all that, the one thing it cant donate is the material to do so.

THE HISTORY OF THE CHERRY PIE WORLD RECORD

In 1976, Charlevoix broke the world record for the largest cherry pie. You can see the pie pan and oven at 6591 S. US Hwy 31. The record stood until 1987 when Traverse City broke it with a 28,350 pound pie, 10,000 pounds more than the Charlevoix one. You can see Traverse Citys worlds largest pie pan at 3424 Cass Rd.
