Corban Alum Dr Matt Lucas Named President And Ceo Of Our Daily Bread Ministries

Hope for the Gentiles: The Gospel of Mark | @Our Daily Bread

In his teenage years, Dr. Matt Lucas dreamed of being a devotional writer. He practiced often, trying to emulate the style of the Our Daily Bread devotions he read. Sadly, they werent very good, he laughs.

Despite the quality of those early attempts, Lucas, a Corban alum and former Provost and Executive Vice President of Corban University, was officially named President and CEO of Our Daily Bread Ministries on March 1, 2022. While he called the opportunity unexpected and unlooked for, he slowly began to see the signposts of Gods working in his life. When they reached out to me, I was very surprised, he says. I wasnt thinking about this type of ministry, but it reminded me of my desire as a young man to write devotionals.

Prior to being named as Our Daily Breads new CEO, Lucas served most recently as Chancellor at Indiana Wesleyan UniversityNational & Global, and as Provost and Executive Vice President at Corban University from 2008 to 2017. For some time, after nearly 20 years of working in higher education, Lucas had been considering a change, whether that looked like becoming an executive pastor or some other form of ministry. For a year, he prayed, talked with his family, and pursued the advice of mentors and advisors who affirmed his thinking.

Faith Food And Hope For The Future

Everyone is welcome here at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, and everyone who enters is a friend. We are a humble, faith based soup kitchen and ministry, providing a hot meal for the stomach and a helping of Gods word for the soul. We also have a clothing room stocked with donated clothes and we have hygiene products that are available on request on occasion we put together bags and pass them out to all our friends. Everything is free, provided thru the heartfelt generosity of individuals, churches, businesses and organizations in our community. All donations are accepted and are tax deductible since we are a 5013 tax exempt organization. We are not government funded.

We are sponsored by more than 50 churches of different denominations from Allen County and the surrounding counties.

For some of our friends, the meal we serve is the only hot meal they will eat on a given day. For some it is the fellowship and camaraderie that brings them here. Whatever the reason, all are greeted with a smile and often a hug from one of our staff or volunteers.

Our doors open at 7:00 am Monday through Friday. We begin serving donuts and coffee at 9:00 am. At 11:30 we have our announcements, food for thought, and our blessing. Then we begin serving our meal until 1:00.

Our Story

In 2006 Our Daily Bread Ministries started with a singular mission of feeding the hungry of Del Norte County. Over the years we have indeed filled thousands of bellies and helped hundreds of souls, some in simple ways and some profoundly.

These years and experiences have transformed the ministry into a far more complex and expansive organization with a broader vision and mission.

Feeding the Hungry – Body, Soul and Spirit

Our Daily Bread Ministries still strives to actively share the Mission and Love of Jesus with all who enter through our doors by offering the fulfilment of basic human needs.

One key way we do this is by providing:
  • Hot evening meals at 5 P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
  • Nutritious breakfasts at 8 A.M. on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays

During evening mealtime we have staff available to provide case management and referral services as well as prayer and supportive help in general. Plus we will provide, as available, clothing, hygiene items, and blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, tents, rain gear, and the like when requested.

Free Table

We also maintain a Free Table in front of our building. During this period of Covid 19 we use the table to distribute the meals mentioned above. At other times during the day we put out clothing, shoes, hygiene items and the like as they become available to us to distribute. We also place food items on the table during the day when available for people to take as they need.

Love The App When It Works

Ok, this is really getting annoying! When the app received its newest update version the app would not open! Realize everyone that updated to the new version was also experiencing the same thing! Wrote a review and the developers advised to delete the app. Once that was done the app worked. Now as of April 1, 2021 the app is blank for todays reading, and when you click on the month it opens and the spinning wheel just continues to spin like its trying to open! VERY FRUSTRATING!!!! I thought it was a April fool joke but this is getting annoying because the next day its the same! Someone on the develop team is/has been slacking on working out the quirks to this app!!!And other main issue is when the new version was updated you all took away the motivation count of how many days being read! This was a cool feature and very motivating!! WHY?!??! Not liking none of this. And when mentioned about the day count on my last review complaint, the developers only address the crashing of the new version, and failed to mentioned about the day count. Could address that as well please?!?!?!? God bless!!!
