Love Cakes By Dlm Designers Win International Competition

At a ceremony on Sept. 20, Love Cakes by Dayton, Ohio-based Dorothy Lane Market designers Lee Ann Parsons and Kaytlyn Stanuszek were named the grand champions of a multi-day competition and awarded the 21st Pillsbury Bakers Plus Grand Champion Trophy.

As a part of the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas, cake designers from around the world competed in Pillsburys Creative Cake Decorating Competition. Six two-person teams from bakeries around the world came to compete, including designers from Quebec, Mexico and other U.S. teams representing bakeries in Baton Rouge and Illinois.

Parsons has been with Love Cakes by DLM, the boutique cake division of Dorothy Lane Market, for seven years while Stanuszek joined the Love Cakes team three years ago.

Judges evaluated everything from artistry and skill to imagination. Beginning Sept. 17, the competitors completed cakes live on the exhibit floor, working for several hours across two days. Winners were announced at the award show in each of the four categories: wedding cake, rolled fondant, buttercream and hyper-realistic.

The Love Cakes team came in first place in the wedding cake and buttercream cake categories, in addition to being honored for their cumulative points as the overall grand champion.

Daytons Dorothy Lane Market To Debut Love Cakes Location

Dorothy Lane Market is opening a retail location of its Love Cakes specialty bakery next to its Washington Township store near Dayton, Ohio. The new storefront, which will be next to the stores Drive Up grocery pickup spaces and the Culinary Center, is under construction and will open in October, according to Scott Fox, VP of bakery and coffee for the three-store independent grocer.

Love Cakes currently operates out of a section in the grocers central bakery behind the store, which can be hard for customers to find and is typically used for wedding cake consultations, Fox noted in a local news report. The move to the front of the shopping center will encourage more customers to stop in and buy ready-made cakes as well as order custom cakes for special occasions. The new space will allow the operation to add a new dessert line as well as give the decorators more room to work, the company said.

Love Cakes former space in the central bakery will be taken over by Lauras Cookies, a partner of the Dorothy Lane Market bakery.

Two Dorothy Lane Market cake designers competed recently in an international, multi-day competition and came out on top as the grand champion.

Lee Ann Parsons and Kaytlyn Stanuszek, Love Cakes by DLM designers, competed in Pillsburys Creative Cake Decorating Competition against cake designers from Canada, Mexico and other parts of the United States.

I am so very proud, said Sabrina Fiffe, Love Cakes by DLM manager. Lee Ann has wanted to participate in this international competition for so long, so her dreams have come true. This is a new experience for Kaytlyn that took her outside of her box, and I just couldnt be more thrilled for them both.

The six, two-person teams were evaluated on everything from artistry and skill to imagination, DLM said in a release. The competition was part of the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas.

Dorothy Lane Opens Cake Shop

Dorothy Lane Market has moved its cake operations to a new 1,050-square-foot facility located behind one of its Dayton, Ohio, stores.

The retailers cake team consists of 14 associates, led since 2012 by manager Katherine Dean.
