About 15 years ago, my son died suddenly. I always gave him the devotional each quarter to help him understand Gods love. He was a really good, hard-working, and healthy young man, but he got involved with drugs. He became very depressed over a relationship and ended up taking his own life. We were devastated, but in his house, next to his bed, we found his copy of Our Daily Bread, open to the day he died. At the funeral, we read that days Scripture passage from the devotional and it was a comfort to us. Your ministry is truly a blessing to me and so many others. I appreciate all the work and effort thats put forth to produce this wonderful little publication. Our Daily Bread , the publishing arm of the non-denominational Christian nonprofit Our Daily Bread Ministries , has added two new editors to its staff. Katara Patton, previously a writer for the monthly and quarterly Our Daily Bread Devotional booklets, has been promoted to senior editor. Patton, who will continue to write for the devotional, will be responsible for acquisition and developmental editing while working with agents, authors, and ODBM cross-functional teams. She will work alongside Joyce Dinkins, ODB’s executive editor and leader of the Voices Collection, which focuses on books and other resources by Black content creators.
In additionm Joel Armstrong, previously associate editor at Kregel, has been named content editor and product developer at ODB. He is tasked with creating original content and editing a wide list of authors.
The staff expansion is part of ODBs strategy to create books that inspire a multitude of audiences to nurture their faith,Chriscynethia Floyd, v-p and publisher of ODB, said in a statement. Katara and Joel each bring a unique set of skills and qualities that will support our mission as a ministry, she adds.
ODB currently publishes around 40 books per year, but Floyd plans on increasing output “as we grow our business with retailers and direct customers.”

In 1979, archaeologist Gabriel Barkay unearthed two small silver scrolls. It took years to delicately unroll the metal scrolls, and each was found to contain a Hebrew etching of the blessing from Numbers 6:2426, The Lord bless you and keep you the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Scholars date the scrolls to the seventh century bc. Theyre the oldest known bits of Scripture in the world.

Barkay was digging in a cave in the Valley of Hinnom, the very place where the prophet Jeremiah told the people of Judah that God would slaughter them for sacrificing their children . The lesson for us is clear. Even if we deserve what we have coming, we can cling to Gods promise. His heart always yearns for His people.

An Old Devotional Brought Life
Then I had to be back in the Philippines again in April of the next year. We went back to that same area.
I remember I was walking across the garbage dump to get to the little church. As I was walking across the dump, I saw this old man running across the field.
Sir! Sir! Do you remember me?! Do you remember me?! And I looked at him and I said,
Yeah. I said, You sat in the back row with me last time I was here.
Yes, yes, he said. You gave me a little daily devotional. I read it every day.
He read it every day. From November thats almost seven months. He read that little daily devotional every single day. Why? Its because its the only piece of Christian literature that he had.

Our Story Isnt About Us
It all started in 1938 with a small radio program called Detroit Bible Class. With his gravelly voice, Dr. M. R. DeHaan quickly captured the attention of listeners in the Detroit area, and eventually the nation. Since then, our audience has grown to millions of people around the world who use our Bible-based resources.
Over the years our name has changed to better reflect the variety of resources we offer. Today, we realize that most people recognize who we are by the well-loved devotional Our Daily Bread. So in 2015, we changed our name to Our Daily Bread Ministries to more clearly communicate who we are. Although our name has changed, our focus has always remained the same: reaching out to people all around the world with the message of Gods love.
Our US headquarters is located in Cascade Township, on the southeast side of metro Grand Rapids and is home to almost 300 full time staff and 100 volunteers. The Grand Rapids office shares a campus with our sister ministries, Discovery House and Christian University GlobalNet.
Beyond the US, the work of Our Daily Bread Ministries is carried out by 35 offices working together to distribute more than 60 million resources in 150 countries. Regardless of whether its a radio or television broadcast, DVD, podcast, book, mobile app, or website, we provide materials to help people grow in their relationship with God.

A Church In A Garbage Dump
Several years ago I was in the Philippines. Wed supplied a little pastor material, and they pioneered a church out in the middle of a garbage dump. There are about 30,000 people who live out in the garbage dump.
I was out there ministering. It was November, I was sitting on the back row, and there was an old man that was sitting next to me.
When I go overseas, I usually give all my stuff away. My wife makes fun of me. She says, You know, one of these days youre going to get off the airplane, and youre going to be naked. You give your clothes away. You give your shoes away. You give your Bibles away. You give everything away!
Anyway, I was sitting back there and there was an old man sitting beside me. I wanted to give him something, you know, but all I had was my Bible left and I needed that Bible for the next two or three days to preach from. So I quickly flipped through it and there was a daily devotional in it. Just a little small, little Our Daily Bread devotional. I gave it to him and he said,
Oh, thank you, sir. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you. I went and preached, we did our business, and left.
