No. Most major brands today are made without gluten, but not all. You will need to check the label to be sure.

Many brands are made with cornstarch, so if you need to stick to a strict grain free diet, you either need to purchase grain free baking powder, or make your own.

You can make grain free baking powder by combining 1 part baking soda and 2 parts cream of tartar.

How To Make It

Low Carb Gluten Free Bread Recipe

It really is easy to make and bake your own low carb bread at home. Here is all you need to do. I have included a low carb Thermomix bread recipe / method for all our Thermomix users. It is super easy this way and of course, can be replicated in any food processor as well.

  • Mix the yeast with the inulin and water in a large bowl or 2 cup measuring jug. Cover it and leave it in a warm place for 15-20 minutes until it activates. You will know it is activated by a thick foam on the surface of the water. The foam can almost double the volume in the jug.
  • Combine all the ingredients into a mixer with a dough hook, food processor or Thermomix and mix until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a clean bench or silicone mat and knead for 5 minutes or until the dough is soft supple and no longer sticky.
  • Press the dough into a large rectangle the same width as your loaf pan. Roll the dough over to form a log and place the dough seam side down into the loaf pan. Cover with a silicone mat or kitchen towel and leave in a warm place for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Bake for 45 minutes. Remove bread from baking pan immediately and allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

    You can use black or white chia, whichever you can get hold of. These awesome superfood seeds are not only packed with nutrients, they also act as a binder. That’s why you only need 3 eggs for this bread. Other recipe use as many as six eggs. Less eggs = zero eggy taste!!!

    Psyllium husk provides an extra dose of fibre, which we all need for a well-functioning digestion. It gives the bread more substance and that whole-wheat taste. Check what kind pf psyllium you have – if you want to use psyllium powder, use only 1 ½ tablespoon as opposed to the 3 tablespoon stated for the crushed husks.

    Both almond flour and almond meal work in this recipe. The added coconut flour further improves the bread-like texture and taste.

    Important!! I used a small loaf tin like this one – it is about half the size of regular loaf tins. Low carb breads tend to be extremely filling as they are nutrient-dense, that’s why this smaller size is just perfect. If you want to use a full-size loaf tin, you would need to double the recipe and increase the oven time by probably around 15 minutes or so.

    If you do not have a small loaf tin and don’t want to double the recipe, you can make Keto rolls instead of almond bread. Let the dough rest until the chia and psyllium have absorbed all moisture before you attempt to handle the dough!

    Recipe update 2/10/2020

    I got feed back saying that the bread was falling once it came out of the oven. I tested this recipe a few times and I did notice that the bread will deflate a little while cooling. I am not sure what is causing it or the solution however my bread was still delicious and actually perfectly baked on the inside with an bubbly crumb. Some mentioned it being raw or doughie on the inside and that should not be the case. If so it needs longer to bake. Its still a lovely bread with a lovely texture but because it can fall the loaf ends up being not a big and puffy as a regular loaf of bread.
