Since were making this a naked-style German chocolate cake, theres no need to crumb coat or perfect the outer frosting, which can sometimes be daunting. Just simply layer, slice, and enjoy!

Germans chocolate cake, traditionally made with sweet baking chocolate and originated back in the 1850s by chocolate maker Samuel German, is known to be unapologetically decadent and indulgent.

Birthday Girl German Chocolate Unicorn Fantasy Ice Cream Cake Cup

My daughter loves all things unicorn, so we created a German Chocolate Unicorn Fantasy Ice Cream Cake Cup. Ive never been to a place where unicorn lives, but I imagine it would be somewhere in the clouds, be colorful, and full of candy. So of course, thats what I created for her ice cream cup using confetti sprinkles, frosting, rainbow candy, and cotton candy some of her favorite sweet things.

White cake frosting was piped onto the outside edge of the waffle cup and spread to 1/2 wide band using a butter knife. To cover the frosting, I sprinkled confetti sprinkles all over it and then filled the inside with chopped German chocolate cake.

For the clouds and rainbow, I piped frosting onto the ice cream, added half a strip of rainbow candy, and added a few confetti sprinkles. To finish the birthday cup off, I added mini cotton candy straws for a fantasy look, but you can buy cotton candy and add it around the outside the bowl.

Tip: Any moisture will dissolve the cotton candy, so do not place it in the fridge or directly on the ice cream.

Doesnt this colorful birthday cup make you smile?! My daughter had so much fun creating a custom Fudgy German Chocolate Ice Cream flavor for her birthday and enjoyed devouring her special birthday treat.

How To Freeze The Cakes For Later Use

These cakes freeze very well! Freezing them in advance makes the assembly much easier, especially since theres a three step process to the German chocolate cake.

To freeze, wrap each cake individually in cling wrap, and cover with a layer of tin foil. Freeze for up to 2 months.

To use after freezing, allow the cakes to thaw in the fridge for 24 hours. Take them out of the wrapping and set them out on a tray at room temperature for 2 hours. Frost as desired.

    It is super hot outside and the perfect time to make this German Chocolate Ice Cream Pie. I call it a pie because it’s got a cookie crust but It sort of looks like a cake. You can call it a cake or a pie. Doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it’s UNBELIEVABLY delicious! Instead of the traditional chocolate cake, it’s got a chocolate cookie crust, then a layer of German Chocolate ice cream topped with a classic coconut pecan frosting. Then drizzled with chocolate ganache. NO. BIG. DEAL.
