If you want to use them a few days later, you can wrap them up and put them in the fridge and reheat them the same way as above or for a minute in a microwave.

How To Make These Easy Flatbreads No Yeast Recipe

If youve never attempted to make flatbreads before, then let me reassure you that these easy flatbreads are really simple to make and you only need a few ingredients flour, salt, butter, baking powder and milk, plus a rolling pin and a non-stick frying pan. Combine the wet ingredients together, and add these to the dry ingredients to form a dough. It will come together easily and doesnt need much kneading.

Once youve let the dough rest for around half an hour or so, cut into four pieces, roll into balls and flatten each piece with the palm of your hand, then roll out into rounds to the size of your frying pan. You can brush a tiny bit of oil on the pan, but you dont need to, it can make them oily. The flatbreads begin to cook when you can see the dough bubbling up in sections, flip the flatbread over and push down again the puffed up bubbles. It only needs around 2 minutes each side.

How To Make Pita Bread Without Yeast

This pita bread without yeast is so incredibly easy that youre going to want to make these all the time.

    Step 1

Add your dry ingredients to a bowl, then add the Greek yogurt and mix until it forms a dough ball.

    Step 2
    Step 3

Lightly knead each ball of dough and roll them in your hands until smooth .

Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap or a towel. Let sit at room temperature for one hour.

Note: the dough is not going to rise during this hour and it is going to look exactly the same. Trust the process!

    Step 4

Place one dough ball on a lightly floured surface and sprinkle some additional flour on top. This will help prevent the dough from sticking when rolling it out.

    Step 5

Using a rolling pin roll out the dough ball into a flat circle.

I estimate that it is probably 1/8 thick, but you can estimate based on my photo below. We want the pita to be nice and thin to allow it to puff up in the oven.

Continue for all of the pita bread, then add to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

I could only fit 4 on my baking sheet, so I made this pita bread in 2 batches.

    Warning!

Do not bake these directly on a baking sheet- be sure to use parchment paper or a silicone mat. If you bake directly on the sheet, the bottoms of the pita bread are going to crisp up way more than we would like:

    Step 6

Bake at 500 degrees F for 8 minutes

At the 5 minute mark, rotate the baking sheet to help the pita bread bake evenly.

Do I Have To Stuff Them With Cheese

Of course you dont! You can fill them with anything you like, even a sweet version with peanut butter or Nutella would be amazing! Otherwise, if you dont want to stuff them at all, you can just roll them out into a regular flat bread. See below under Can I Use The Dough For Anything Else? to see some other ideas.

In a large bowl, combine the warm water and salt and stir until the salt is disolved. Then mix in the olive oil. Add the flour and use a spoon to mix it. It may be easier to use your hands, once it starts to turn into a shaggy dough.

Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. For larger flatbreads, cut into 4 pieces.

Use a rolling pin to roll the dough until very thin. You may need to flour your workspace and your rolling pin to avoid sticking.

In a large skillet, cook the flatbread, one at a time, over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Then flip and continue to cook for 3 minutes until lightly browned.

To keep the flatbread warm while you cook the rest of the dough, wrap the stack of flatbreads in a clean dish cloth.

Easy (no yeast) flatbreads â Only Crumbs Remain

Because this bread has no yeast or other raising agents, like baking powder or baking soda, in the ingredients, it is characterized as being unleavened bread. This has the advantage of being quick to make as there is no resting period for the dough to rise.

    Flatbread Recipe no yeast

Simply mix the ingredients, divide the dough, roll it out with a rolling pin and put it in the pan. Really it could not be easier to make.

You could experiment with this basic recipe by adding minced garlic or cumin seeds. Or perhaps even some desiccated coconut to give some taste variation.

But really we think it is great as it is and therefore the perfect soft flatbread for making sandwiches with other ingredients.

Or you could fry the flat dough in oil or ghee which would give you a nice crispy bread, which you could cut into fingers, perfect for dipping.

    Ingredients For This Recipe

    • All purpose flour: Yep, old reliable here, plain flour does the job well.
    • Plain Greek Yogurt: I buy this by the tub every week because we use so much of it. I prefer one with a high protein content and thick texture.
    • Baking Powder: This reacts with the liquid in a recipe once when its combined with liquid and then again when its heated. These types of recipe should be cooked right away.
    • Salt: For flavor, every bread needs this.

    How To Prevent Flatbread Dry

  • When you fry flatbread, preheat the pan first to make sure it has a high temperature so the flatbread doesnt get too dry. This way you dont have to fry the flatbread in the pan for a long time, causing it to lose moisture and dry out.
  • Cover the fried flatbread with a towel to keep the surface moist so that it doesnt dry out.
  • If the flatbread is too dry or cracked around the edges, you can brush it with butter or olive oil.

    • WHOLE GRAIN FLOUR: I used whole wheat flour in these photos. You can definitely use gluten-free all purpose flour in this recipe with great results.
    • OLIVE OIL: Youll need 3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil to make the dough. I like to brush another Tablespoon onto the rolled out and partially baked dough for crispy pizzas.
    • FINE GRAIN SALT: The fine grains of salt dissolve better. Its OK to use sea salt if its fine ground, but kosher salt or any coarse grind salt will not dissolve as well.
    • CORN MEAL: Just a dusting to sprinkle onto the baking pan or pizza stone. Or you could use unbleached parchment paper and skip it. I think coarse grind cornmeal works best.

Whats The Difference Between White Whole Wheat Flour And Regular Whole Wheat Flour

    Easy Soft Flatbread (No Yeast!)

Its actually a different variety of wheat. White whole wheat flour is made with hard white spring or whiter wheat. It includes the bran, germ, and endosperm, making it whole wheat. Since its made with hard white wheat instead of hard red wheat, like whole wheat flour, it has a paler color and its taste is milder. Youll still taste more of a nutty flavor compared to regular all-purpose flour because it includes the fibrous bran and germ of the wheat, but its a milder whole-wheat flour so its great if youre getting used to the taste of whole wheat.

How To Make Flatbread With No Yeast

This flatbread recipe is made with no yeast. It is very easy to make, requiring just a minute or two of kneading.

And it honestly is beautifully soft and pliable. So soft you can use it as a wrap and it wont crack.

And of course, it is perfect to be used as pita bread, for things like Greek Gyros and Greek Chicken Souvlaki.

And here I have used it as naan as a side for Butter Chicken. When I make it to be like naan, I cook it on a slightly higher heat to get larger and more brown bits on it just like real naan! The crust gets slightly crispier so its not as suited to use as a wrap, like in the above photo.

If youve never tried homemade bread before, this flatbread recipe is a great one to start with because it really is that easy. The worst that can happen with this flatbread recipe is that the heat is too high when you cook it so the exterior ends up a bit too crunchy and cracks when you roll it. If that happens, just spray it with olive oil or brush lightly with oil or butter and it will moisten the surface.

Try this once, and store-bought flatbreads will never be the same again. That I can promise! Nagi x

No- the flour used MUST be self-rising, or at least a homemade self-rising flour.

Either standard self-rising flour or gluten-free self-rising flour work. If you choose to make your own, you can use all-purpose flour, wholewheat flour or white flour.

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Yeast Free Cheesy Flat Bread

Self Raising Flour Self raising flour is needed to give the breads a fluffy texture.

Plain Greek Yoghurt Any plain yoghurt will do. You can use different fat percentages but a higher level of fat will make for a softer and tastier bread. Also make sure you dont use a sweetened yoghurt.

Salt Not crucial to the recipe but I like it for the flavour.

Cheese You can really get creative here but Id opt for a good melting cheese like a cheddar, Jarlsberg, gouda or mozzarella for example.
