Grandmas Mini Apple Pies

ALDI Ingredients: How to Make A Dutch Crumb Apple Pie

This post is written by me, and sponsored by ALDI.

As many of you know we are in the throws of getting our house built. This has been one of the most trying times of our married life. Building or buying a house is such a huge commitment and we must be happy with the end product. It can really put to test what you really want in life and what you really want for your family. In the end family is everything, it truly is whats important in life.

So, as you can imagine, we are throwing everything we have monetarily at our house, saving, saving, and saving some more. All this saving means we have to cut corners and sacrifice. The one thing I really try not to sacrifice is the quality of the real food I feed my family. Its so frustrating that in this wonderful country of ours its incredibly difficult to feed your family well on a small grocery budget. This is the reason we love shopping at ALDI.

I checked out and couldnt believe the price I was paying for all of that! When I got home I set about making mini versions of my Grandmas apple pie. I peeled and sliced 6 apples. Coated them with a little lemon juice, sugar and flour. I rolled out the dough and cut out large circles to put in the muffin tins. I filled each pie shell with the apples and sugar mixture. With the excess dough I cut out leaves and placed those on top instead of crisscrossed dough pieces. I baked them in the oven on 350 for about 30 minutes or until crust was golden brown and apples were cooked.

Is Frozen Puff Pastry As Good As Fresh

The good news is that frozen puff pastry delivers all the specialness of puff pastry without all the hours and elbow grease. And theres absolutely no shame in using frozen puff pastry: many cooks always keep a package on hand to make palmiers, cheese straws, turnovers, pot pies, pizzas, and tarts.

People Are Making Beautiful And Bizarre Creations With Aldi Pie Crust

From knock-off Chick-fil-A sandwiches to adult Capri Suns, there’s not much Aldi shoppers can’t do using ingredients found in the aisles of the grocery store.

But it’s store-bought pie crust that is most recently getting an upgrade from Aldi fans and the results are creative and, sometimes, creepy.

Chelsea Sutton, a stay-at-home mom from Kansas, started creating intricately designed pie crusts using store-bought crusts from Aldi after watching “The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell” on Netflix.

“I loved her creative spooky ideas and had to try for myself,” Sutton told TODAY Food, explaining that she creates her pies by tracing stencil patterns onto pie crusts and then slowly cutting them out with a knife, toothpick or cookie cutters. “After creating a few designs, I wanted to challenge myself.”

Sutton’s challenge to herself was an intricate pie crust that shows a dragon in-flight, soaring over beautiful flowers. On a whim, Sutton shared her creation on and its members fell in love.

“To my surprise, after only two minutes, over 2,000 people had already responded,” said Sutton. “I loved seeing the other pies that were shared and was amazed by all the kind comments.”

In days following her post, Sutton received over 34,000 reactions to her dragon pie. Among the commenters was Susan Perazzini, a mom of four from Tennessee who shared a slightly different pie: A chicken pot pie designed to look like a bruised face that she called a “chicken pot to the eye pie.”

What Is The Best Way To Cook Aldi Pizza

Spinach and Ricotta Pie

The best way I have found to cook Aldi pizzas is in your oven. Sometimes the most obvious and straight-forward way is still the best way.

Its important not to let the frozen pizzas defrost too much first, otherwise theyre a mess to get on the oven rack . If the frozen crusts get too warm/soft, they get soggy and sticky and wont slide onto the rack.

They also might end up sagging while cooking, so that toppings or worse, cheese falls to the bottom of the oven and burns. Avoid the mess!

An idea for reheating your leftovers, though: If youre reheating by the slice, pop em in the air fryer for a minute or two on 400 degrees. It brings the pizza right back to life, just as good, if not better than before!

Essential Everyday Regular Pie Crusts

Although this one looked like a frisbee meets pie crust, this contender received high marks for its butteriness and flakiness. With a slight sweetness, this pie crust resembled more of a cookie to some tasters, some of whom enjoyed the flavor despite its slight gumminess when chewed. This one was the ultimate winner because it was unfussy and had consistent result. Although the pies were smaller than standard pies, one batch of filling would be enough to fill both pie crusts, which we considered a win.
