  • In a medium-sized bowl add gluten-free flour with xanthan gum, salt, baking soda, gluten-free baking powder, cocoa powder, and cinnamon. Stir to combine the ingredients.
  • In a large bowl cream the softened butter and sugar with a mixer, until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and pure vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until fully combined.
  • Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until fully combined. Scrape down the sides if needed.
  • Add the homemade buttermilk to the cake batter and mix until fully combined.

  • Pour half of the batter into the first greased 9-inch cake pan and then pour the rest of the batter into the second greased 9-inch cake pan.

Why Did My Gluten

There are several reason why cakes sink, one is from over beating the batter and adding too much air. Also, cakes often will sink when there is too much moisture.

This is more common in humid climates where added moisture can collect naturally in ingredients such as flour.

When this occurs, cupcakes may rise rapidly and then fall during baking.

In higher elevations, the leavening agent works twice as hard and may cause the batter to rise rapidly and sink before itâs had a chance to set up.

All these tips are relevant to most cake and cupcake recipes, not just this Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake.

The Start Of A Chocolate Cake

I started making dairy and gluten-free chocolate cake to show a man I liked him I confess a little stereotypical. I met Matt kayaking grade 3 rivers. As we dated, I learnt he couldnt have dairy or gluten and loved chocolate cake. I love eating and making cake, so I took to the kitchen to experiment, making a cake that didnt compromise in taste. It must have worked as we now have two sons!

As it turned out, my oldest son was diagnosed with dairy intolerance at a young age. Luckily, he didnt have to miss out on eating at birthday parties or family get-togethers. I must say, over the past four years, thankfully, many supermarkets in the UK have stepped up with their dairy and gluten-free products. I can hear the sigh of relief, knowing you will be able to find the ingredients easily.

Unless you pay a fortune for a specialist cake maker, I think homemade cake taste different to shop-bought dairy and gluten-free cake. The ones we have tried from supermarkets have been disappointing the texture is dry, crumbly and tastes overly sweet. By the time youve made this recipe a couple of times, you can tweak it to your preferences. For example, depending on how sweet your tooth is, you can potentially reduce the sugar slightly.

Is This Dairy Free Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Paleo

Double Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free)

No! This cake is not Paleo, since its made with a classic rice-based all purpose gluten free flour blend. Rice is not Paleo.

It isnt made with almond flour, either, which has a much shorter shelf life, and is typically very expensive . The best Paleo chocolate cake is, indeed, made with almond flour.

Tips For The Chocolate Frosting

If youre not already blown away by the cake, just wait until you try the frosting. Two ingredients yall. Coconut milk and chocolate. Yeah, you will want to smash your face into it. It might even make for a good facial but I cant quite guarantee that one.

When I initially published the recipe, I used to separate the coconut cream and then add it to a saucepan with the chocolate chips. Then I tried pouring in the entire can of coconut milk and I liked that version even better.

You just melt them together, whisk until smooth and refrigerate until firm. Then use a hand mixer to beat it until a fluffy frosting forms. To make sure it has enough time to firm up I prefer to prepare the frosting the day before.

This cake is loved by so many and if you havent tried it yet, Im sure you will love it too!

How Do I Make This A Sugar Free Dairy Free And Gluten Free Cake

You may be able to make this cake with Lankato brand monkfruit granulated sugar alternative. Alternative sugars tend to dry out a cakes batter, so pay close attention to the texture of your cake batter, and add more hot water by the teaspoonful to match the texture you see in the photos and video on this page.

What About This Cake

This cake is so simple to make that my 11yr old niece bakes it with ease. All you need a hand mixer, weighing scales and cake tin. I have no finesse in the kitchen. I usually measure and throw the ingredients together, so if I can do it anyone can.

  • Sainsburys pitted black cherries in light syrup
  • Any dark chocolate, dairy-free cocoa powder, chocolate chips and baking powder that are on offer

*TIP* Our family have intolerances. We do not need to ensure the factory is also gluten-free. If this is the case for your family, check the ingredients as many supermarkets like Aldi has gluten-free products without advertising them as gluten-free.

The cake is very moist and doesnt need anything else, but you can serve it with dairy-free ice cream. Make sure you hide a piece if you live with hungry loved ones. Enjoy x

Thank you Jen for this recipe it sounds oh so yummy and the fact that its also gluten free is a plus! Cristina has developed a slight intolerance to it so she avoids it at all costs. But in a house of bakers, its quite the challenge!

Alas, there will be more recipes we will develop around the gluten-free and vegan concepts, so stay tuned as well!
