This is the most irresistible restaurant-style bread dipping oil recipe! Youll feel like youre at a fancy Italian restaurant and you wont be able to stop dipping!

Give me a loaf of bread thats the perfect balance of crusty and soft, and this bread dipping oil, and Im a happy girl. Throw in a glass of wine and youre pretty much making all my dreams come true.

I mean, this stuff is absolutely irresistible. Someone asked me to develop a recipe for this, quite some time ago nowand I didand then I sat on the floor of my studio after I photographed it and ate bite after biteafter bite. Its garlicky, herby, a little spicy, a little salty, and 100% amazing.

Drizzle over some incredible extra virgin olive oil and you have the perfect precursor to pretty much any meal. I meanif you want to make it a meal in and of itself, you wont find me judging. Youll probably find me saying, Could you please pass me the bread?

This bread dipping oil is the best concoction of herbs, garlic, and of course, rich, flavorful olive oil. It makes a lot, but it stores well in the fridge for about a week. If you want to extend the shelf life further, leave out the fresh garlic and just add that when youre ready to use it. Thats what I typically do.

How Do I Make Dipping Oil

To make the oil, mince some fresh garlic , then stir it into the olive oil with some dried oregano, thyme, rosemary, red pepper flakes, and salt and pepper. Let it sit for a little bit before serving, which gives the dried herbs a chance to let off their flavors and the garlic time to mellow. You can also add a few spoonfuls of grated Parmesan cheese for a salty, nutty bite.

When serving the oil, I like to spoon it into shallow individual serving bowls, making sure to scoop up some garlic and herbs along the way. That way, each person can double dip to their hearts delight. If youre refilling bowls , give the oil a stir each time to redistribute the yummy bits.

However, as delicious as that is, when Im having guests for dinner or drinks, I do like to appear to have made at least a small amount of effort. The Best Tasting Olive Oil For Dipping Bread

Before we dive deep into the bread dipping spices, lets talk about the most important ingredient of the recipe: Olive Oil.

There are so many olive oils on supermarket shelves these days, its hard to know which one is the best olive oil for dipping bread. A general rule of thumb is to purchase a cold-pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil from one supplier or country. These are the fruitiest and most flavorful. Avoid olive oil blends or refined versions.

And remember, above all else, taste trumps all, so go with your favorite. My favorites include Bertolli , California Olive Ranch , and Carapelli . If you happen to have a local Italian market or gourmet market, they will usually let you taste the olive oils and help you find what youre looking for all you have to do is ask!

PRO TIP: Note that olive oil is perishable. For best results, store your good-quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a cool, dark place and use within 1-2 months upon opening. If unopened, it will last in your cabinet for up to two years. Dont store your olive oil in glass jars or near your oven, as light and heat will degrade the oil faster.

Do You Have To Refrigerate Bread Dipping Oil

What Are the Best Breads For Dipping?

Yes! While olive oil on its own does not require refrigeration, when you add the spices and flavorings it runs the risk of also introducing bacteria if the oil is not properly stored.

For best results, keep in a sealed container in the refrigerator. If the oil solidifies, just allow it to come to room temperature and it will liquefy again.

Did you know dried herbs are actually more potent than fresh!
